One of the biggest pitfalls in change and project delivery is failing to define value and desired outcomes from the very beginning 🙌
Too often, organisations move quickly into delivery and then attempt to retrofit value afterwards, making it difficult to measure impact, align stakeholders, or understand whether the change has truly been successful.
In part 3 of our conversation with Nick Dobson our Principal Consultant here at CITI, he explores why “beginning with the end in mind” is essential for meaningful delivery and shares how our BIP Mapping approach (Benefits, Impact, Product) helps organisations connect delivery activity back to real outcomes and value creation 🌱
If you’re leading change or projects within your organisation, this discussion offers an important reminder: delivering outputs is not the same as delivering value.

Embracing change means more than adopting new technology, it’s about how we use it to enhance thinking, improve delivery, and create lasting value.
In our May newsletter, we explore how organisations are integrating AI into everyday practices to drive efficiency, support better decision-making, and strengthen project and change outcomes.
We also reflect on the role of critical thinking in ensuring technology is used with purpose, not just pace.

We’re excited to be attending the APM Conference 2026! With this year’s theme, The Power of Clarity, we’ll be on Stand 22 discussing all things project management, change management, and learning🙌
You can also join our CEO Kalpna Sanders on Wednesday 29th April 2026 at 11:55 - 12:40, for a discussion on AI, Skills and Critical Thinking from Experience.
Come by to explore how clear thinking, structured approaches, and people-focused strategies can help your projects and programmes deliver meaningful, lasting impact.
Because clarity drives success ✨
In change and project environments, inclusion doesn’t happen by accident. It grows when we create space for open conversation, curiosity, and understanding across our teams.
When people feel respected, heard, and able to be themselves, collaboration strengthens, ideas flourish, and better outcomes follow. Diverse perspectives bring richer thinking to the challenges we solve together.
To mark International Women’s Day, we’re sharing a poem written by our CEO, Kalpna Sanders, reflecting on the importance of inspiring inclusion and embracing the richness of difference in the way we work and lead.
At CITI we believe developing inclusive leadership and awareness is an essential part of building stronger change and project communities.
How do you inspire inclusion in your teams?
Too many projects fail to deliver the benefits they promise, not because ex*****on is flawed, but because we skip the crucial first step: understanding the problem. All too often, teams rush into solutions, defining scopes and initiatives without clarity or agreement on what they’re truly trying to solve.
Being very clear on what the problem and its parameters are enables us to be as clear as to the value we seek from resolving the problem.
This is first order thinking. What, precisely, is the problem? And exactly how much value will we get through resolving it? The answers to these two questions provide both the rationale and the justification for trying to achieve change.
Second order thinking is about what solution/s will address the problem. Do we need a project? What is its scope? How should we build/buy that scope? How will we fund it? And how will we manage the risks? These are all important and absorbing questions but remain, obstinately, second order. They are, literally, not worth addressing if we don’t know the answers to the first order questions.
Start with clarity, stay focused on value, and the rest will follow.
This festive season, we’re shining a light on a remarkable charity dedicated to bringing comfort, joy, and emotional support to hospitalised children and young people. Our CEO, Kay Sanders, serves as a Trustee for the charity, and CITI Limited recently sponsored their Bravery Ball, which raised an incredible £3,500.

It’s time for part two of our interview with Kay, and this time, we’re exploring the impact of not solving the right problem.
Our CEO, Kay, shares a striking insight from her years of experience: 70–80% of implemented projects are never actually used.
This statistic highlights exactly why identifying the right problem is crucial, and why asking the right questions at the very start can save time, money, and energy down the line.
Watch the full conversation to discover how we tackle this challenge and help organisations focus on what truly drives meaningful results.
