Another busy week at Howe Park!

🌟 Year 1 RE Learning 🌟

We had a really engaging RE lesson this week! ✨

We have been thinking about how Christians see God and the different roles they believe He has. The children explored pictures and shared thoughtful ideas about how God can bring peace and calm, as well as how He is loving and forgiving. 🙏

We also discussed how Christians believe God is the Creator and cares for both people and animals. 🌍🐾

We then explored the idea that sometimes we can imagine things in our minds that we cannot actually see with our eyes. We discovered that even when we are given the same information and instructions, we can all imagine things differently.

To explore this, the children followed the same instructions to draw their very own 👽 aliens! They loved comparing their drawings and noticing how different they looked, even though everyone had followed the same criteria.

It was a fantastic opportunity to talk about perspective, imagination and how we can understand things in different ways. 🌈✨

🎭✨ Something very exciting is happening at Howe Park on Monday 5th Oct✨🎭

Our Main School and Nursery children are in for a very special treat… the theatre is coming to life with a performance of Pinocchio! 🤥⭐

There’ll be laughter, storytelling, pantomime magic and even a special behind-the-scenes experience for Year 2! 🎬

We absolutely can’t wait! ❤️🎭🌟

This weeks

Screens are now part of daily life, but for very young children, simple and predictable boundaries can make a big difference. 📚🐻 Howe Park Book Club Story! 🐻📚
This week, we’re going on an adventure with the much-loved story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen, beautifully illustrated by Helen Oxenbury! 🌳🌊🌾

This week’s book was recommended by Mrs Ashok, who said:

💬 “I really enjoyed this story book because it is fun to read aloud and has lots of repetition. The words and actions make it easy for children to join in with the story.”

And she’s absolutely right! 🙌 The repetitive language, rhythm and actions make this a fantastic story for children to join in with, build confidence and have fun with language.

Most importantly, we’ll think about what Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury are trying to tell us through their words and pictures. Can the illustrations give us clues about what might happen next? How do the pictures help us feel the excitement, anticipation and perhaps a little bit of fear as the story unfolds? 👀🐻
We can’t wait to see where our bear hunt takes us this week! 🐾🌳

💉 Monday 28th September
Our flu vaccine clinic, originally planned for today from 12:30–3:00pm, has been rescheduled to Monday 12th October, 12:30–3:00pm. This is for school age children only and does not include Howe Park Nursery children.

🔬 Year 2 Science Fun! 🧪

This week, Year 2 have been busy exploring and testing the stretchiness of different materials in their science lesson! 🌟

The children learnt that we can change the shape of an object by stretching it and discussed how this can be useful for different activities. For example, stretchy clothing can be particularly helpful when playing sports. ⚽️🏃‍♀️

The children then put their scientific skills to the test! They added a bag of weights to different materials to see whether their length increased. They made predictions, observed what happened and compared their results. 🧐📏

As predicted, the elastic band and deflated balloon were the stretchiest materials! 🎈

Well done, Year 2, for being such fantastic scientists! 👏🔬
