🌱 Year 1 Science Learning 🌱

This week in Science, our Year 1 children have been enjoying learning about the different parts of a plant and the important jobs they do. They explored the roots, stem, leaves and flower, and discovered how each part helps the plant to grow and stay healthy.

The children used their new knowledge to draw and label their own plants, carefully identifying the roots, flower, stem and leaf. They then shared their understanding by discussing how each part benefits the plant, showing excellent scientific thinking and vocabulary.

Well done, Year 1! We are so proud of your fantastic learning and creativity. 🌼🌿🌱

🌧️☀️ A Week of Beach Adventures and Weather Watching at Howe Park Nursery! ☀️🌧️

Even though it’s been a rainy week at Howe Park Nursery, we have been busy exploring all the wonderful things you can do at the beach! 🏖️

The children enjoyed sharing their own beach experiences and told us:

💬 “You can build sandcastles on the beach!”
💬 “I paddled in the sea!”
💬 “I had an ice cream at the beach.”
💬 “There are pebbles and shells on the beach.”

We have also started investigating the difference between dry and damp sand. The children quickly discovered that all the recent rain has made our sand very wet and damp! 🌧️ We’re hoping for some sunshine over the next few days to help dry it out. ☀️

This week, we’ve been on weather watch, checking the sky each day and talking about what we can see. The children spotted lots of grey clouds and even heard thunder during some very heavy rainstorms! ⛈️

Whenever the sun made an appearance, we made the most of it by taking out the bikes and scooters so the children could enjoy some outdoor fun in the sunshine. 🚲🛴☀️

🏠 This week at home: Talk with your child about the different types of weather they can see each day. Can they spot sunny, cloudy, rainy, windy, or even thunderstorm weather?

We look forward to hearing all about their weather discoveries! 🌈😊

This week, Foundation have been busy being mark makers! They have been exploring and experimenting with a variety of ways to draw and write, using different tools, materials, and surfaces. The children have enjoyed making marks to express their ideas, develop their creativity, and build their early writing skills through fun and engaging activities.

This weeks Wake Up Wednesday is about building school-ready language skills

⏰ Year 2 have been busy comparing and ordering intervals of time in Maths! During one activity, the children chose an interval of time and then found other intervals that were less than, equal to, or greater than it.
They thought carefully about how many minutes each interval represented and used this knowledge to sort the cards accurately. It was wonderful to see the children applying their understanding of time, discussing their ideas, and explaining their reasoning with confidence. Well done, Year 2! 🌟📚⏱️
