A brand new leisure centre was constructed and we were selected to design, supply and install the new play area to fit within a certain space on the plan, with a set budget. This space was required to be small but perfectly formed, with an array of play types and activities, brightly coloured equipment and an overall high level of durability and accessibility for all leisure centre users.

The Lower Back Bench features an adaptable footrest that accommodates users of all heights, allowing comfortable use without the need for machine adjustments. The cushioned hip support ensures high user comfort. It supports a wide range of back extension exercises, effectively strengthening the hip extensors as well as the lower and upper back muscles.

The equipment can also be approached and engaged with directly from a wheelchair, allowing users to perform supported upper-body and mobility-focused exercises.

With the site next door to a primary school, the council wanted to create a space where children can go before and after school, as well as the holidays. KOMPAN supported Wooton-under-Edge in public consultations, including two school consultations involving Early Years, KS1 and KS2.

After the public and school consultations, there was a clear need for equipment for the very young as well as Years 5 and 6. They were in need of a challenge, engagement and excitement. For the smaller year groups, the council chose to include more accessible and inclusive equipment for all ages.

The new Ab Bench features ergonomically positioned leg supports that enable a variety of sit up exercises while effectively strengthening all abdominal muscles without placing harmful strain on the lower back. The ergonomically designed seat helps reduce stress on the spine during the exercise. The cushioned lower leg support ensures high user comfort.

Annual inspections of cableways and other tall play equipment are typically conducted at ground level. Consequently, inspectors often recommend a more detailed examination. The following statement is commonly included in such reports:

"We have completed a visual inspection of the suspension links, cable and fixing points from ground level, however it is not possible to fully inspect these areas without, either hiring, equipment to gain access or removing the cable, and suspension and inspecting at ground level. We recommend that the main cable and fixing security is thoroughly inspected at least in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations to check for wear, damage, security or internal rusting; this will help to ensure the continued safe use of the equipment."
