September is nearly here ✂️

Our Wednesday and Friday Beginners Sewing Courses are now fully booked, with just a few places remaining for Saturday afternoons.

There are also a limited number of places available across our Junior Design School groups, beginning Monday 7th September.

I’ll be switching off from social media for two weeks to celebrate both of my children’s birthdays and enjoy some uninterrupted family time during the summer holidays 🤍

Bookings will remain open through the website while I’m away, and I’ll respond to messages when I return.

Yesterday morning I set myself a challenge.

I woke up with a busy schedule and somehow decided to make my life even harder!!! My goal was to transform this beautiful patterned crepe from Fabric Godmother into a top I could wear to London by the evening.

I gave myself just a couple of hours to create something from scratch before heading off to teach my tote bag workshop, then home to get dressed in my new top before making my way into the West End.

No toile, no overthinking, just fabric, a pair of scissors, a sewing machine, and trusting the process.

Sometimes creativity doesn't need more time... it just needs a start.

Would I wear her again? Absolutely. 🪡🥂

As an introvert myself, I know just how daunting it can feel walking into a room where you don't know anyone.

It's one of the reasons I work so hard to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere in the atelier.

The majority of students who join my courses come on their own. Those first few minutes can feel a little nerve-racking, but before long, conversations start, confidence grows, and over the next 5–6 weeks it's lovely to watch complete strangers become familiar faces... and often, friends.

So if you've been waiting for someone to come with you, this is your reminder that you don't have to. 🤍

Behind every class, every sketchbook, every carefully prepared workstation and every piece of fabric is something much bigger than sewing.

When I created Hyness School of Design, I didn't just want to teach people how to use a sewing machine. I wanted to create the kind of creative space I would have loved to walk into myself.

A place where questions are welcomed. Where mistakes are part of the process. Where creativity isn't judged. Where every student feels seen.

Over the years I've met so many people who begin a conversation with...

"I'm just not creative."

Or...

"I've always wanted to learn, but I don't think I'd be any good."

The truth is, I don't believe creativity is something a lucky few are born with.

I believe it's something that grows when you're given the time, encouragement and confidence to explore it.

That's also why I choose to keep my classes small.

To me, small classes are the definition of luxury.

Not because they're exclusive.

But because they allow for something you simply can't rush: time.

Time to ask questions. Time to make mistakes. Time to notice the details. Time to build confidence.

In a world that seems to celebrate doing everything faster, I've always believed that beautiful things take time.

Whether that's learning a new skill, making your first garment or discovering a creative side of yourself you never knew existed.

My hope has never been that people simply leave with something they've sewn.

I hope they leave believing in themselves just a little bit more than when they walked through the door.
