The biggest misconception about 11+ preparation?
That it’s a race.
We often speak to families who feel they need to:
• Start exam papers immediately
• Cram techniques
• Add more and more homework
• Push harder, earlier
But successful preparation isn’t built on pressure.
It’s built on:
✔️ Secure foundations
✔️ Steady skill development
✔️ Growing independence
✔️ Confidence under timed conditions
The 11+ is a marathon - not a sprint.
When children feel capable, calm, and prepared, they perform at their best.
If you’re unsure where your child should be in their journey, we’re always happy to talk it through.

Today, we’re celebrating the people who care, guide, and quietly hold everything together.
At Engenius, we work closely with so many dedicated parents and carers. We see the early mornings, the homework support, the encouragement before exams, the reassuring conversations after a long school day. The commitment behind the scenes never goes unnoticed.
Mother’s Day can mean different things to different families. For some, it’s about mums. For others, it’s dads, grandparents, or other important figures who step into that nurturing role. Today, we celebrate all of them - the people who create opportunities, provide stability, and champion their children every step of the way.
As a team, we are not only tutors - we are parents too. We understand the hopes, the worries, the juggling, and the pride that comes with supporting a child’s journey.
To every parent, grandparent, and carer who invests time, energy, and love into their child’s education - thank you. Your support makes all the difference.
Wishing you a day where you feel appreciated and valued.

✨ Tuesday Top Tip ✨
Focus on reflection, not repetition.
It’s easy to think progress comes from completing page after page (after page!) of questions, noticing only the final score. But real progress happens when children slow down and analyse their mistakes.
Encourage your child to:
• Look carefully at corrections
• Identify where their thinking went wrong
• Explain the correct method out loud
• Retry the question independently
This builds deeper understanding, stronger exam technique, and long-term confidence.
At Engenius, we don’t just move on when something is wrong — we use it as the most valuable learning opportunity in the lesson.

"It’s the highlight of his week.”
Feedback like this means everything to us.
Over the past three months, this pupil has not only developed his skills in Vocabulary and Non-verbal Reasoning, but he’s grown in confidence too. And that’s what matters most.
When children look forward to learning, progress follows naturally.
We’re so proud of the supportive environment our team creates, and we're incredibly grateful to the families who trust us with their child’s journey.
Thank you for such kind words 🫶🏼

📚 Happy World Book Day
At Engenius, reading isn’t just about decoding words - it’s about building imagination, vocabulary, empathy, and confidence.
To celebrate, we’re sharing our recommended reading list for more able KS2/KS3 learners. From fantasy adventures and mystery novels, to classic literature and heart-warming stories, these books challenge, inspire, and stretch young readers beyond the classroom.
✨ Strong readers become strong writers.
✨ Strong readers develop deeper comprehension.
✨ Strong readers build the vocabulary needed for 11+, GCSE, and beyond!
Whether your child loves magical worlds, clever puzzles, or timeless classics, there’s something here to spark their curiosity.
What’s your child reading this World Book Day?
