☀️ What are the Engenius tutors doing with their own children this summer?
We’re often asked how we keep our own children learning during the holidays.
The answer? Every child is different.
This summer, our own families are preparing for everything from starting Year 1 and moving into Key Stage 2, to sitting the 11+, and working on GCSE English Language.
📚 Claire’s son is preparing for next year’s GCSE English Language exam by practising his answer structure.
✏️ April’s daughter is taking her 11+ this September, so she’s attending regular lessons with Emma, alongside plenty of practice at home.
🧠 Emma’s oldest is getting ahead before starting Year 3 11+ preparation in September, while her youngest is building Year 1 skills and even enjoying some early 11+ activities alongside her brother!
💙 One thing we all have in common? We believe in little and often.
How are you keeping learning going this summer?
We’d love to hear what you’re up to! 🌞

💡 Tuesday Top Tip
Build Independence This Summer
Preparing for a new school year isn’t just about practising Maths or reading another chapter of a book.
One of the biggest confidence boosters for children is learning to do more for themselves.
Over the summer, encourage your child to take on small responsibilities, such as:
🎒 Packing their own bag
👕 Choosing and laying out their clothes
🥪 Helping to prepare lunch or snacks
📝 Remembering what they need for the day
🤔 Having a go at solving small problems before asking for help
These everyday tasks help children develop independence, resilience, and self-belief - skills that are just as valuable in the classroom as they are at home.
Whether your child is starting a new year group, moving to secondary school, or preparing for the 11+, giving them opportunities to take ownership of small tasks can help them walk into September feeling capable and confident.
At Engenius, we believe that confidence isn’t built overnight! It’s developed through everyday experiences that encourage children to think, try, and grow.
What independent task has your child mastered recently? We’d love to hear in the comments! 💙

📚 School’s out… so let the summer reading begin! ☀️
One of the best ways to keep young minds active over the summer is through reading. Just 15–20 minutes a day can help maintain vocabulary, comprehension and confidence, while allowing children to discover new worlds and develop a lifelong love of books.
Our tutors have put together a selection of some of their favourite reads for children aged 7–12, with something for every type of reader - from thrilling mysteries and fantasy adventures to laugh-out-loud stories and historical fiction.
Whether your child is preparing for the 11+, moving up a year group, or simply looking for their next great book, we hope this list provides plenty of inspiration for the summer holidays.
📖 Our challenge for you: How many of these books can you read before September?
Happy reading, and enjoy a well-deserved summer! 💙

📊 100% of pupils improved.
When we compared our mock exam results for this academic year, every single pupil who completed all our 11+ mocks from October through to July, improved their overall weighted score. 💙
These results reinforce something we see every year: regular attendance at mock exams help children build confidence, identify areas for improvement, and develop the skills needed to perform strongly under real exam conditions.
Our mocks aren’t just about measuring progress – they’re about creating it.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more insights from this year’s mock programme.
Congratulations to all of our hardworking pupils – we’re incredibly proud of every single one of you! 💙
