11 Year 10 pupils went on their DofE Silver training expedition this weekend. After a very rainy start and a few navigation errors on Saturday morning, the sun came up, spirits rose and they all successfully completed the weekend. We are looking forward to the assessed expedition in the Peak District in July.

Pupils at Kents Hill Park Primary have been busy putting their creative skills to the test by designing flags to welcome residents and visitors to Taylor Wimpey’s new Bronze Park development.

Taylor Wimpey challenged pupils at the school - which is situated opposite Bronze Park - to design its new welcome flags, with the winners having the opportunity to see their designs come to life and be installed at the development. The winners, Natalie and Hanna received £50 Amazon vouchers as a prize.

Natalie’s bold design was chosen for its detail, with the Taylor Wimpey Sales Team loving her innovative creation and reference to the well-known wooden statue of a boy and girl back to back on a roundabout next to the school. Hanna’s design was selected for its originality, with the team praising the vibrant green colour scheme, the beautiful tree and the cat that featured on the swing. Well done, girls!

Marvellous Makers! (a creative arts themed Challenge) is this year’s Reading Agency Summer Reading Challenge that asks children to read at least 6 library books during the summer holidays.

Children signing up for the challenge at their local library are given a folder and collect stickers as they read which will enable them to help The Marvellous Makers find out what’s happened to their missing creative items.

After reading 6 books children are presented with (while stocks last!) a medal and a certificate of reading achievement.

Children can sign up from Friday 19th July 2024 and should complete the challenge by Saturday 7th September 2024. They can take part at any Milton Keynes Library (remember Woughton Library is located in the Farthing Enterprise Centre in Netherfield) during staffed hours.

Taking part increases children’s reading confidence, skill and enjoyment. It motivates them to read, inspires creative responses to books, and helps to minimise the “summer learning dip”

Below is a summary of Marvellous Makers! Summer Reading Challenge.

Who is it for?

· The challenge is for children of all ages and it is free to join.

What do they do?

· Aim to read 6 library books during the school holidays; these can be whatever interests them: stories or information books, graphic novels, eBooks or audio books.

What do they get?

· Each time they finish a book they collect a sticker.

· Once they read six books they will receive a certificate and a medal (while stocks last!).

Does it cost anything?

· It’s free to join the library and borrow books but a child’s parent/carer needs to fill out a form on the child’s behalf.

· It is also FREE to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge

Useful Links: free downloadable resources on The Reading Agency’s website has book recommendations, games and information for parent/carers and schools. Library info including locations and opening times online joining form info about online library resources including eBooks and eAudio books.

Mandela Class completed their final SATs paper yesterday... so we decided to have a symbolic SATs paper shredding party. Don't worry, it wasn't the real ones - it was all the past papers they have worked so hard on throughout the year! We are all very proud of them and are looking forward to new challenges as we begin the countdown to the end of their primary days.
