And perhaps, as the summer holidays have gone on, you’ve started to realise that your child is ready for exactly that.

At The Wendy House, we believe every child is different.

Our aim isn’t simply to prepare children for school — it’s to get to know each individual child, understand what they need, celebrate what they can do and support them to make progress at their own pace.

Our qualified, knowledgeable and dedicated team of practitioners support children aged 2–4 years through play, relationships, exploration and everyday experiences that build the foundations for learning, confidence and independence.

And there’s no need to feel guilty about your child attending preschool. You’re not handing over their learning and development — you’re giving them another place to grow, explore, make friends and become increasingly confident, with people who genuinely care about them. 💜

You can start with as little as two sessions a week, and you may be entitled to funded childcare, meaning your child could attend for 15 or 30 hours a week at no cost to you, depending on your eligibility.

What a busy few days we’ve had, first a fun afternoon of water play for our Wednesday afternoon school leavers and today our end of term summer party with the wonderful The Great Gappo. 🎉

💜A message from Wendy and Nicky💜

As we prepare to close our doors for the summer holidays, Wendy and I would like to take a moment to share something about our team. 💜

Every day, they give so much of themselves to the children.

They play, laugh, sing, explore and imagine alongside them. They happily eat pretend dinners, build towers that are knocked down moments later and answer “What are you doing?” with a smile—even when they have already been asked 20 times before 10am. They wipe runny noses, change nappies while singing nursery rhymes, read favourite stories again and again and patiently encourage children to have a go, try again and discover how much they can do for themselves.

Behind all of these moments is so much thought and care. They carefully observe each child as they play, noticing their interests, achievements, friendships and the things they may be finding difficult. They use what they see to plan meaningful experiences that help every child learn, develop and flourish. They know when to join in, when to gently guide, when to encourage and when to stand back. They notice the little things: a new word, a brave attempt, a kind gesture or a child joining in for the first time. They quietly cheer every child on, often without anyone else seeing just how much patience, care and encouragement went into that moment.

Working with young children is joyful, funny and incredibly rewarding, but it is also messy, noisy, tiring and emotional. It takes patience, kindness, careful planning and a very special heart.

We see the love, care, thought and energy our team pours into the children and families of The Wendy House every day. This summer holiday is a deeply deserved chance for them to rest, breathe, recharge and spend time with the people they love.

Wendy and I could not be prouder of them, more grateful for them or luckier to work alongside them.

To our amazing team: thank you for every cuddle, every song, every story, every observation, every planned experience, every encouraging word and every piece of your heart that you give to our children. You are the heart of The Wendy House, and we hope you have the happiest, most restful summer. You truly deserve it. 💜☀️

🌟 Can You Help Us Restock Our Messy Play Cupboards?🌟

As we get everything ready for September, we’re busy restocking our messy play resources ready for another year of fun, exciting and hands-on learning!

As many of you know, The Wendy House is a charity-run, not-for-profit preschool, so every donation, no matter how small, really does make a difference and helps us provide wonderful learning opportunities for the children.

If you are able to donate any of the following items, we would be incredibly grateful:
