We’ve had a lovely afternoon. 💜

At The Wendy House, we love giving children opportunities to experience and learn about the world around them through real-life encounters and hands-on experiences.

How lucky were we to welcome Cedric yesterday! 🐢

Cedric is a South African Spurred Tortoise, also known as a Sulcata Tortoise. After initially thinking Cedric was a male, it is now believed that Cedric may actually be Cedrica! As it turns out, determining whether a tortoise is male or female can be quite tricky. Either way, Cedric didn’t seem to mind what we called them!

The children were fascinated and asked some brilliant questions, including:
💭 How old is he?
🥬 What does he eat?
💩 What colour is his poo?

They also made some fantastic observations:
🦕 “He looks like a dinosaur!”
🐢 “He’s really big!”
🛡️ “His shell is hard!”

Visits like these spark curiosity, encourage children to ask questions, develop their observation skills, and learn about different animals in a fun and memorable way.

At The Wendy House Preschool, children can join us from the age of 2 and enjoy a warm, nurturing environment where they can learn, play, explore, and grow in confidence.

We offer a choice of sessions and days to suit your family’s needs and accept both funded and paid-for places.

We were delighted to welcome a midwife to preschool today as part of our People Who Help Us learning.

The children learned about how midwives look after mummies and babies during pregnancy and after babies are born. They explored a range of equipment including a Doppler, stethoscope, blood pressure monitor and scan photographs, and enjoyed finding out how these are used to check that babies are growing well.

There was lots of hands-on learning as the children measured, weighed and cared for baby dolls, just as health professionals do with newborn babies. The children asked some fantastic questions and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

A huge thank you to our visitor for giving the children such an engaging insight into this important role within our community.

And, just in case you’re wondering… no child asked how the babies got in, and no child asked how they got out either… phew! 😅💕👶
