Understanding the world – Invitations to play
As part of our focus on understanding the world, children were provided with a range of invitations to play to support their knowledge and understanding.
Within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), this area supports children in learning about the world around them, making sense of their experiences, and building on what they already know.
Through these opportunities, children were able to confidently talk about what they see in their everyday lives. They shared experiences of places they have visited on holiday, discussed the animals they have at home, and talked about where they live.
These conversations demonstrated children’s growing awareness of their own experiences and their ability to make connections between their home lives and the wider world.

We celebrated Mother’s day in style at Aktiva Highfield House.

The children carefully created beautiful bouquets of flowers for their mums and nans.

Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a relaxed afternoon tea together.

The manager recently travelled on a mission trip to Uganda and shared with us the various ways we can support the charity, including helping to provide sewing machines for families whose children have graduated from the school and are now seeking to start a business to support their households.
At Aktiva Highfield House, we agreed as a setting to support LightForce International Uganda this year. Following our Christmas Fayre, we are pleased to share that we have raised £395.25. Every year as a charity, we aim to support 8 top students with a sewing machine. With this money collected, this will secure 4 sewing machines for our top students. We would like to thanks our friends and families who came to support us.

The children at Highfield Nursery took part in Remembrance Day by creating a beautiful wreath together. Through this simple act, they learned about kindness, peace, and remembering those who came before us.

Last week we celebrated black history in our little way. our children were able to play with the musical instruments, and parents were able to taste some food from around the world

Our amazing sports coach Liberty was out on the field yesterday, helping the children burn off that last bit of energy before home time! They had so much fun playing games and enjoying the fresh air. It’s always lovely to see so many smiles. Thank you, Liberty, for making exercise so much fun for everyone!

Mama duck made a surprise visit this morning with her first chick of the season! 🐣🦆 Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

We had a lovely surprise at the setting today, a beautiful Mandarin duck came to visit! 🦆 The children were so excited to see it. They were full of questions and loved watching it waddle around and perch on the logs. It was such a calm and special moment, a little reminder of how magical nature can be when it just turns up like that. Definitely a day to remember!
