Next Thursday,8th October, we are taking part in the Guinness Book of Records attempt for the most people to be reading for ten minutes within a twelve hour period. Check the link below for more info.

On Thursday 8 October, the National Literacy Trust and the British Council will aim to set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the most people reading online in 12 hours.

Mayor's Christmas Card Competition

The Mayor, Councillor Paul Trendall, is running a Christmas card design competition to find the perfect design to send electronically to colleagues and associates this Christmas.

The Mayor would be delighted to see inclusion of a MK Foodbank in the design in support of his chosen charity, however, this is not essential. We only ask that glitter and shiny materials are not used in the design because this would affect the quality of the scanned submission and final electronic design.

The winner will have their design printed and sold at the Mayor’s Carol Concert which takes place mid-December. All funds raised will go to the Mayor’s chosen charity MK Foodban

🚲CYCLE TO SCHOOL WEEK🚲

We would love as many children and families as possible to get involved in Cycle to School Week, which is from Monday 5th October to Friday 9th October 2026.

Cycling to school is a fantastic way for children to be active at the start and end of the school day. It can help build confidence and independence, while also reducing the number of cars around the school gates and supporting a healthier, more environmentally friendly journey to school.

How can your family get involved?
During Cycle to School Week, we are encouraging children and families to:
• Cycle to school whenever possible.
• Cycle together as a family.
• Make sure bicycles are safe and roadworthy before setting off.
• Wear a correctly fitted cycle helmet.
• Choose a safe and appropriate route.
• If you live too far away to cycle the whole journey, consider driving part of the way and cycling the remainder.

Here are some of the fun activities we have planned for Cycle to School Week:
• Cycling in PE for all pupils
• Lunchtime Learn to Ride sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
• Lunchtime Slow Races on Wednesday (Year 5 & 6) and Friday (Year 3 & 4).
• Bling Your Bike Day on Friday 9th October. Children are welcome to decorate their bikes with accessories.
• Bike Bus on Friday 9th October. Meet @ 8:10am at Petworth Park for a family ride (all children must be with an accompanying adult cyclist
• FREE bike checks and minor repairs with Paul from CycleTech Silverstone. Afterschool from 3:15pm-5pm on Friday 9th October. Enter via Slope Gate. For TMA pupils and families.

We appreciate that cycling to school will not be practical for every family. Walking, scooting or choosing another active way to travel are also great ways to join in and help log active journeys on our online WOW Active Travel Tracker!

Our aim is not about being the fastest or cycling the furthest. It is about encouraging children to enjoy being active, develop healthy habits and think about how we travel to school.

We hope Cycle to School Week will inspire lots of our children to get on their bikes and perhaps even encourage some families to make cycling part of their regular school routine.

⚽🎽PE & School Sport Round Up🏀🏏

Children have had an amazing start to the year and it has been great welcoming our new pupils in Year 3!

PE lessons have focused on Cycling 🚲 and Football ⚽, with many children accessing additional cycling sessions at lunchtimes thanks to our wonderful Bikeability instructors that have been in school this term! We have also been very fortunate to have Abbie from British Cycling join us for both during-school and afterschool Cycling sessions!

Our awesome weekly Bike Bus returned on Friday 18th September! The first two rides have seen a great number of riders, including lots of new families. Thank you to those parents that continue to volunteer on Friday mornings to help lead and marshal the ride! 🚲

Changes at lunchtimes has enabled us to add more activities for children to take part in. On Wednesdays we now have MK Breakers delivering FREE 🏀 Basketball sessions this term and MK Youth Korfball 🏐are delivering two Thursday sessions for all year groups (this club we hope to run regularly in the summer term). All Years Tuesday Run Club 🏃🏃‍♀️has been extremely popular on the school field, with Year 5 & 6s starting their 'Marathon Club' challenge, scanning their QR codes after each lap to log their distances gained! Our new Year 6 Sport Leaders have also began their lunchtime sessions for Year 3s to take part in challenges they have set up on the playground- well done to you all for your hard work! 🎯

As well as the success of 🌈 Harry's Rainbow House Run Day, which saw 🔴Rutherford House crowned champions and over £550 raised for charity, we have seen children take part in the following after-school events during the first few weeks of term:

🎽TMA Cross Country Festival - 11 schools and over 200 children in attendance. 52 runners from TMA with special shout outs to 🥇Ayla (1st), 🥇Carlos (1st), 🥈Anaya (2nd), Enid (4th), Thomas (5th), George (5th), Serial (5th) in their races!

🌈🌈Harry's Rainbow House Run 2026 Results🌈🌈

We are so proud of the effort of all our pupils in Friday's House Run events!

Congratulations to all pupils on completing your year group race, earning points to your house totals. Additional points were earned through raising money for Harry's Rainbow - we received over 70 donations totalling over £550!! A shout out to Brittain 🔵 House for being the highest fund raisers! THANK YOU to all that donated to this amazing charitable cause - Alison and Trudie from Harry's rainbow visited the event Friday and were so impressed with the children.

🏃🏃‍♀️🌈 We are ready for today’s Harry's Rainbow House Run Day!!🏃🏃‍♀️🌈

All pupils will represent their House in a running challenge, earning points for taking part. Bonus House Points will be earned for raising money for charity Harry's Rainbow .

THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE THAT HAVE DONATED SO FAR - Over 50 donations and we have raised over £400!

Results will be announced Monday so donations are very welcome over the weekend and will count towards team totals!

Thank you for your support and any donations to Harry's Rainbow are hugely appreciated. Harry's Rainbow provides support to children and young people who have been bereaved of a parent or sibling. They provide memory boxes, hold regular Rainbow Groups with activities to improve confidence and self-esteem, send families to their holiday home and offer days out to families throughout the year.
