We have recently invested in some of our areas within school and are very proud of how lovely our school environment is looking! 🥰

- Our Year 5 and 6 shared area was revamped last week, with a new sofa and bar area. Our oldest children have been loving this mature and calming look, and have found it comfortable for independent work and group work alike 🛋️

- Over the Summer, our playground has been added to with a trim trail installed, and our children have been loving the new playground markings which were added in the holidays. A big thank you to our PTA, Watling Together for paying for this through their fundraising efforts 🤩

- Our Nursery team have done a fantastic job at developing the Nursery environment and we are so proud of how calming and inviting it is for our fantastic little Explorers! 🪴

- Our Year 1 Explore and Learn area is also looking incredible with new trellises and some amazing child-led opportunities to learn 📝🌱

We’ve had a fantastic first couple of weeks back at school. Here’s a little bit of what we’ve been up to 🤩

•⁠ ⁠Reception and Year 1 have been enjoying Explore and Learn and using all of their fantastic resources with their new friends. We’ve seen amazing constructions, fantastic puzzle-solving teamwork skills, and brilliant fine-motor practicing in our creative areas 🥰

•⁠ ⁠Year 4 have been enjoying their PE lessons and have shown some amazing teamwork skills in Netball 🏐

•⁠ ⁠Year 5 have jumped straight into their Music project for this year and are loving learning the keyboard. After only two lessons they can already accompany each other beautifully! 🎹

•⁠ ⁠Year 6 have been learning about working collaboratively in their Computing lessons and were set the challenge of working on a presentation whilst only communicating via chat 💻

•⁠ ⁠The Nest have been learning all about colours and have enjoyed expressing themselves through their artwork 🎨

•⁠ ⁠Our after-school clubs started this week and we’ve loved watching children enjoy a range of activities including Cooking, Arts and Crafts, Stop-Motion Animation, Basketball and more! 🧑‍🍳🎨📸🏀

We’ve had another busy week at school and have had some fantastic things to celebrate! 🥳

- On Thursday we celebrated the men’s World Cup starting by wearing football kits or bright clothing. We’ve also decorated the corridors in school with the flags of the countries participating. It was so lovely to see so many children participate and represent the countries they will be supporting ⚽️🏟️

- Our Year 2 and Year 6 children recently participated in a National Rail engineering project where they were tasked with building locomotives and today they had their demonstration and celebration assembly! They loved sharing their creations with each other. Year 2 were fascinated by the complex electronics Year 6 used to make theirs function! Lots of certificates and prizes were awarded - to those that had the best builds and designs, as well as those that worked well together and showed excellent communication throughout the project. Well done everyone. We are so proud of our future engineers! 🚃👷

- We also celebrated our winners of our recent National Numeracy Day competition by awarding 3 children with some prizes for submitting their fantastic entries showing how numbers are used in our community 🧮👥

- Finally, our Year 1 and 2 boys football team took part in a friendly this afternoon where they won 7-0 against another local school. This was the first match our Year 1 and 2s had played together. We loved watching them celebrate this great achievement together as well as their fantastic sportsmanship throughout the match 🥰

We’ve had a busy and enjoyable first week back at school this week 🤩

Not only have Year 6 had lots of fun on their residential, here’s what else we’ve been up to:

- We’ve started a new round of clubs with so many opportunities for our children to enjoy. This includes Cooking, Brazilian Soccer, Boards Games, Choir and so much more 🧑‍🍳⚽️🎲🎶

- In Forest School this week, lots of our children took on our Sketch Nature STEAM challenge where they were challenged to look closely at a piece of nature and sketch it scientifically and accurately 🍃🌳

- Some of our Year 5 children have started attending weekly swimming lessons. We are so proud of how much progress they have made just in one lesson! 🏊

- Our Nursery and Reception children have started mixing during their Explore and Learn time. We will do this for one afternoon each week. It’s a lovely opportunity to make new friends and start that important transition period for our Nursery children 🥰

- Our Year 3 and 4 girls football team came second in their competition after narrowly losing the final in a penalty shootout. We are so proud of them! ⚽️🥰

- Meanwhile, some of our Year 4, 5 and 6 boys footballers got the chance to play in a tournament at the MK Dons Stadium this week! 🏟️

There is so much more planned for the next few weeks as we race ahead to the end of the year. 🤩

Year 6 Residential – Day 3

After a good night's sleep, with the wind finally disappearing, everyone woke up refreshed and ready for another exciting day! We enjoyed delicious croissants for breakfast before packing our suitcases and heading off to our final activities. 🥐🧳

Both groups took on the Tree Gauntlet – a thrilling aerial climbing course that the children absolutely loved! They even had the opportunity to belay for one another, helping to keep each other safe while building trust and confidence. 🌳🧗

Group 1 also tackled the Taskmaster challenge, where they completed a variety of activities involving map reading, problem-solving and teamwork to earn as many points as possible. One of the trickiest tasks was building a rocket using a rope and pulley system. It really tested their communication and teamwork skills, but they rose to the challenge and succeeded! 🧭🚀

Meanwhile, Group 2 had their turn at stand-up paddleboarding, with every child giving it a go and having lots of fun on the water.

They are now very excited to be on the coach heading home. The children are quietly chatting, although we suspect there may be a few naps on the journey after all the fun and adventure of the last few days!

We received some wonderful feedback from the Rockley staff and instructors, who commented on how fantastic our children have been throughout the residential. They have been a credit to themselves, their families and our school, demonstrating excellent teamwork, resilience, enthusiasm and manners throughout the trip. 🥰

Year 6 Residential - Day 2

Our Year 6 group started the morning with a hearty breakfast to refuel for another busy day of activities. Despite a wet and windy night, the children showed fantastic resilience and enthusiasm throughout the day.

Both groups had the opportunity to complete the zip wire and try their hand at axe throwing and fire lighting. This gave everyone the chance to push themselves, learn new skills and work together to overcome a range of exciting challenges.

During the zip wire, the children demonstrated incredible bravery and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones. The tomahawk axe throwing quickly became a firm favourite, although it proved much trickier than expected! The children enjoyed learning how to use both angel blades and tomahawk axes. 🪓🎯

During the fire lighting challenge, the children had to search for suitable natural materials, including dried bracken, lichen and sticks, before attempting to light their fires. This required excellent teamwork, perseverance and patience, as the strong wind repeatedly blew out their fires. The children loved drawing upon the skills and knowledge they have developed through Forest School to help them succeed. 🔥

Both groups also headed out onto the water today, enjoying the opportunity to take part in adventurous water-based activities whilst continuing to develop their confidence and teamwork skills. Group 1 had a go at stand-up paddleboarding, whilst Group 2 had their turn at canoeing. 🚣‍♀️

This evening, the children took part in an Egg Drop Challenge. Teams raced to collect materials and design protective cases for an egg, which were then dropped from a height. Unfortunately, Group 1's eggs didn't survive the challenge, but Group 2 absolutely smashed it – without smashing the egg! 😂

We are incredibly proud of how all of the children have approached every activity. They have shown outstanding resilience, determination and teamwork, always encouraging and supporting one another. It has been wonderful to watch their confidence and independence continue to grow as they challenge themselves, create lasting memories and enjoy this special experience together. 🥰

Tomorrow marks the final morning of our residential adventure, with the children looking forward to one last round of activities before they begin their journey home. We have no doubt they will approach these final challenges with the same enthusiasm, resilience and determination they have shown today and yesterday. 🤩

Year 6 Residential – Day 1

This morning, our Year 6 children set off bright and early for their residential trip to Buddens Activity Centre in Dorset. On arrival, they enjoyed a tour of the site and couldn't wait to get started with an afternoon full of activities.

Group 1 took on the Rockley Challenge – a land obstacle course followed by a swimming race in the water – before heading off for some canoeing. There was plenty of fun and laughter, even if a few of them needed rescuing after drifting into a bush! 🚣😂

Group 2 also tackled the Rockley Challenge before putting their teamwork and creativity to the test with Taskmaster, earning points by completing a range of challenges together.

This evening, the children have visited the tuck shop to stock up on snacks and are enjoying some free time together playing games. Tomorrow promises a full day of adventure and we can't wait to share more updates with you!

We are incredibly proud of the resilience, determination and support for one another that all of the children have shown today. They are doing Watling proud!

As this is our very first Year 6 cohort, this trip feels especially significant. The children have worked incredibly hard throughout the year and gave their SATs their absolute best just a couple of weeks before half-term. We are delighted that they now have the opportunity to celebrate all of their hard work by making memories, enjoying new experiences and having a fantastic time with their friends.

On Monday, we welcomed Safari Stu to school to visit our children in Nursery, Reception, Year 5 and Year 6 🦎🕷️

Safari Stu brought along a fascinating range of reptiles, minibeasts and mammals, and the children truly impressed us with their curiosity, asking thoughtful and enthusiastic questions 🤩

The children also impressed us with their bravery and willingness to try something new. It is so lovely to look through the photos below and see such big smiles, showing how proud the children were of themselves and their peers 🥰

On Thursday and Friday this week, we welcomed visitors from Brazilian Soccer Schools Milton Keynes for a skills workshop for our Year 1-6 children 🇧🇷⚽️

The children had a great time; whether this was something brand new to them or if they are already football superstars! 🏆

We can’t wait to welcome Brazilian Soccer Schools back next half-term to run some after-school clubs for our children! Booking for our clubs opens on Friday 22nd May via ParentMail 🤩

On Friday last week, our Reception children enjoyed a pirate WOW Day, inspired by their Literacy book ‘The Night Pirates’ 🏴‍☠️

The children had a fantastic time completing all sorts of pirate-themed learning, including going on a treasure hunt, having a pirate party, and even impressed us with their chopping and peeling skills when making Pirate Punch! 🥤

We love bringing reading to life and are so thankful to our staff and families for always supporting us to make learning so memorable and enjoyable 🥰
