Can you (or someone you know) help?

The school has signed up with the children’s literacy charity, Schoolreaders, to get additional support for our children as they learn to read. Schoolreaders finds volunteers and matches them with a local school, and the volunteers go in to school weekly to listen to children read one-to-one during term time.

Can you spare an hour or two each week to listen to children read at school?

No qualifications are needed - just a good command of English and some spare time. With your commitment and support, we can help our children improve their reading skills which greatly increase their life chances.

Volunteers must be aged 18+ and there is no upper age limit; they do not need to be parents, so please refer anyone who might be interested to the Schoolreaders website. Applicants can request Water Hall Primary School by name.

In a bid to inspire girls and young women to consider careers within the motorsport industry, Silverstone Museum is offering FREE admission to all girls aged 18 years and under throughout October.

The drive to encourage more females to consider careers in motorsport is essential, as a recent report by More than Equal highlighted how no woman has raced in F1 since the 1970s and female participation represents only 10% across all levels of competitive motorsport. Formula 1’s most recent gender pay gap report, published in 2023, also revealed that just 31% of its workforce is female.

This is not just for Year 6 students, they are welcoming any students, from any primary schools, in any age groups to attend and see the school in action. 😀

Despite the extreme heat, our children have settled in beautifully this week. We have been delighted with the smiley faces, getting to see all of you parents and getting stuck into some fab learning! Reading during the summer is so important! Local libraries are great to borrow books from too 📚

Looking for something to do over the holidays?!

Join our school rock painting group, it's your mission to make someone's day in the form of a hand-painted rock decorated with a friendly face or an inspirational message.

Clover, one of our pupils, has started us off and has hidden rocks on the school site. It would be lovely to have more to join them in and around the school.

Some of our children have attended Ride High this year.
Ride High MK ran a competition for the children to design a picture which would be made into a mosaic for their new beautiful garden.
Ride High supports 120 children per week across MK and we're super proud that Archie and Dawn had their designs chosen.
Both children received a medal and a prize and they were over the moon.

Nike and Rebel Girls

This year, the Summer Reading Challenge is teaming up with Nike and Rebel Girls to give away copies of their new book, Rebel Girls Kick It: World Champions Take the Pitch, and You Can Too. This special, limited-edition book features stories and fun facts alongside original illustrations of 28 Nike athletes, Q&As with coaches and activities to enhance football skills.

After reading your 6 books, you’ll be presented with a medal and a certificate of reading achievement and a copy of Rebel Girls Kick it (while stocks last)!

There's a digital platform too, so the fun can carry on at home! Sign up online at summerreadingchallenge.org.uk where you can use the Book Sorter to discover new books, find fun reading activities and active challenges, play games, watch videos and write book reviews.

We have recruited many young volunteers to help us over the summer and hope you'll take time to chat with them about the books you've read.

Enjoy choosing your books and be sure to complete the challenge by reading and recording six books before the closing date of 9 September 2023.

Remember - this is reading for fun and you can read whatever you like and however you'd like - whether it's fiction, fact books, poetry, joke books, picture books, graphic novels, audiobooks or eBooks.

The Summer Reading Challenge takes place during the summer holidays and Milton Keynes City Libraries are running the challenge from 21 July until 9 September.

You can sign up at your local library from Friday 21 July 2023 and read any books of your choice to collect special stickers and other rewards along the way – all for FREE (while stocks last).

On Friday 7th July, 37 Year 5-6 pupils from 8 primary schools competed in the final of Bikeability Olympics 2023 at Sports Central in Central Milton Keynes.
We are really proud to announce that our very own Year 5 pupil, Thushani Suseelan won GOLD in the Bike Detectives category.

Our feathered friends have caused much excitement this week! We have transferred them into a temporary (possibly permanent!) home in the courtyard.
The girls are living their best life, wandering around and exploring the area!

💙⚽️Our girls football team are wearing our amazing new PE kits that will be worn when entering sport competitions! The kit was sponsored by Dunbar and DZL Construction ltd- whose logos are on the back. A huge thank you to both companies for enabling this to happen. We will wear the kits with pride in our next competitions. Thank you, our girls have done us so proud this year and don’t they look fab now too! ⚽️💙

Did you know, years 3-6 all have a log in for TT Rock Stars? We are allowing the children some time in school but also they can play at home! You can download the app or play online. Year 6 parents:
Good morning from some very tired staff 😴 😂 after enjoying pizza, a fire pit where they toasted marshmallows, film, popcorn and a pamper for the girls, the children finally fell asleep. But by the time the night owls had fallen asleep the early birds had risen! We are having breakfast now but please can we ask for a prompt 9am collection from the staff car park entrance. Lots of brilliant memories made ❤️

Mrs Ayers had lots of fun lighting the fire pit this evening for our Year 6 sleepover marshmallows!

Hopefully they are all asleep now?! 🤞

We are so delighted that one of our former members of staff has had her first book published. Lorraine has dedicated the book to us, here at Water Hall, too.
