End of school years are filled with proud parenting moments and social media posts about awards and grades and trophies. Parents are rightly proud of what their children have achieved and - as a once upon a time straight A, trophy winning student - I totally get that.

But, in the week of trophies and awards and grades, it is important to remember that success comes in many different shapes and sizes.

To those other children - those children for who success isn't celebrated through shiny silverware or top marks - I want to say that I see you, too.

Our square pegs in round holes: we celebrate you, too.

You might not have passed all your exams. Hell, you might not even have been able to sit your exams.

You probably don't have awards for excellence, for academic or for sporting achievements.

That doesn't mean though that your successes are any less cause for celebration.

Not all children thrive in a school environment.

They really, really don't.

For some, just being in school is an achievement in itself.

And the journey they may have been on this year may have been really quite remarkable.

For our square pegs, currently forced into the restrictions of a round hole.

You are phenomenonal.

You have achieved and have done so much. So much more than anyone other than those closest to you will ever get to see or hear about.

We are so, so proud of you.

And to those teachers and school staff; that small group of people who don't punish and berate and diminish our children for the fact journeying through every day is that little bit harder than it is for everyone else..... but instead celebrate everything about them?

Thank you hardly feels adequate.

Thank you for everything that you do for our children.

Achievements aren't all shiny silver and polished scrolls.

And sometimes what seems from the outside to be the most ordinary of moments, are the most extraordinary of all ❤️
