β˜€οΈπŸ’¦ A Splashing End to a Fantastic Year! πŸ’¦β˜€οΈ

To celebrate the final week of the school year and the glorious sunshine, our Nursery children enjoyed a very special water play session! They brought their water guns to school and had a wonderful time spraying the flowers, trees, grass, fences, walls and outdoor toys. There was just one important rule – no spraying each other! 😊

The sound of laughter and excitement could be heard all around Oldbrook as the children had fun outdoors. While they were playing, they were also putting into practice so many of the important skills they have developed throughout the year, including following instructions, negotiating space, sharing, showing kindness to others and moving safely in different ways.

After such an energetic afternoon, everyone cooled down with a well-deserved ice pop, enjoying a special treat together with their friends.

What a wonderful way to celebrate an incredible year of learning, growth and fun. We are so proud of everything our Nursery children have achieved this year and can't wait to see many of them continue their journey with us next year.

Well done, Nursery! 🌟

πŸ… End of Year Celebration Assembly πŸ…

Today we came together as a whole school for our End of Year Celebration Assembly, recognising the incredible achievements of our pupils throughout the year.

Children proudly received awards for consistently demonstrating our school values, celebrating the positive choices they make every day. We also recognised the hard work and commitment of children who have supported our school through the Eco Team, celebrated our talented violinists with their music certificates, and applauded our enthusiastic readers for their fantastic dedication to reading.

The assembly ended with a very special surprise as we celebrated our Headteacher, Mr Hopkins, who has been awarded a Pearson National Teaching Award – Certificate of Achievement following his nomination for Primary Headteacher of the Year. This prestigious award reflects his inspirational leadership, unwavering dedication and commitment to ensuring every child at Oldbrook First School & Nursery has the very best opportunities to succeed. We are incredibly proud of this well-deserved recognition.

Alongside today’s celebrations, there was also an emotional moment as we said goodbye to our valued hub teacher from the Oldbrook family. While we are sad to see her leave, we are so grateful for everything she have contributed to our school community and wish her every success and happiness in the future.

Congratulations to all of our award winners, and thank you to every member of our school community for making this another fantastic year of learning, kindness and achievement.

πŸ“πŸŒπŸŠ DT: Designing and Making Smoothies! πŸ‡πŸŽ

Our Year 1 children have had a fantastic time completing their DT unit by designing, making and tasting their very own fruit smoothies!

Before getting started, the children learnt all about the importance of good hygiene. They discussed germs, why we wash our hands before preparing food and how to keep food preparation safe. They then practised using knives carefully to cut a variety of fruits before using a blender to transform the solid fruit into a delicious liquid smoothie.

The children worked in three groups, each creating a different recipe:
πŸ“πŸ‡πŸŽ Strawberry, grape and apple
πŸ“πŸŒπŸ‡ Strawberry, banana and grape
πŸŠπŸ“πŸ‡ Orange, strawberry and grape

After tasting each smoothie, the children voted for their favourite by completing a tally chart, using their maths skills to find the most popular flavour!

It was a wonderful hands-on lesson that combined design, healthy eating, food preparation and data handling, while giving everyone the chance to try something new.

Well done, Year 1!

🌿 A Greener Oldbrook! 🌿

Our school community has been busy helping to make Oldbrook First School & Nursery an even greener place to learn and play!

Children and their families have worked together to transform recycled milk bottles into beautiful planters, filling them with flowers, herbs and plants. These colourful creations are now proudly displayed on special planters outside each learning area, brightening up our playground and creating a welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy.

Around the school, our planters are also bursting with vegetables and flowers. The children take great pride in caring for them by watering them regularly and watching them grow. Through this project, they are learning about sustainability, caring for the environment and how plants help to create cleaner, healthier air for us all.

A huge thank you to all of our children, parents and staff for helping to make our school a greener, healthier and more colourful place to be. 🌼🌱

🏰 Year 2 at Warwick Castle! 🏰

Year 2 had an unforgettable day exploring the incredible Warwick Castle! The children stepped back in time as they discovered what life was like in a real medieval castle, bringing their history learning to life.

Throughout the day, they explored the magnificent grounds, learnt fascinating facts about castles and knights, and enjoyed seeing the impressive towers, battlements and historic rooms. There was so much excitement as the children immersed themselves in history, asking thoughtful questions and making links to their classroom learning.

The children represented Oldbrook First School and Nursery brilliantly with their excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and curiosity. We are so proud of the way they embraced every opportunity and created memories that will last a lifetime.
