Shenley Brook End School is a vibrant and exciting community. We are incredibly proud of our talented students, who worked alongside artist Emma Garofalo to create and parade Cygnus (The Swan), following the success of last year's Pegasus lantern. Using willow, tissue paper and light, they transformed their creativity, teamwork and dedication into a stunning large-scale artwork that shone brightly through the streets of Milton Keynes.

A huge thank you to MKIAC, Anouar Kassim, Emma Garofalo, and the many organisers, artists, performers and volunteers whose hard work and dedication made this wonderful event possible. We were delighted to parade alongside our friends from Walton High, Cold Harbour CE School and the Ukrainian Society, celebrating creativity, cultural diversity and community spirit together.

Thank you also to our students, families and staff who joined us for an unforgettable evening of light, music and celebration. Moments like these remind us how creativity can bring people together, strengthen community connections and create lasting memories for everyone involved. ✨🦢💫

Our Prospective Year 7 Open Evening takes place on Thursday 8 October and we would love to welcome Year 6 students and their families.

This is a fantastic opportunity to come and experience our vibrant school community, meet our dedicated staff, hear from our students 🥰, explore our excellent facilities and discover the wide range of opportunities that await students both inside and outside the classroom.

✍️ National Poetry Day Competition Now Open! ✍️

To celebrate National Poetry Day on Thursday 1 October 2026, we are inviting students in Years 7-13 to take part in our whole-school poetry competition.

The challenge is to write and illustrate an original poem inspired by the idea of 'wonder'. The poem could be about something amazing, strange, beautiful, mysterious or completely ordinary that you see in a new way.

There are no strict rules about style. The poem can rhyme or not rhyme, be serious or funny, short or long. Poems must be original and hand-written. Illustrations must be hand-drawn or painted. Use of AI is not permitted.

Entries should be submitted to Mrs Hazell by Friday 23 October. Prizes will be awarded for best poem and best illustrations. Please see Mrs Hazell for more information.

October is just around the corner, and that can only mean one thing... it is time for the Art Department's Sketchtober Challenge! 🍂

With five prompts each week, students can complete as many as they like and in any medium. Draw, paint, sculpt, perform, collage, photograph and more. They can even combine multiple prompts into a single piece. The possibilities are endless! 🎨✏️🖌️📸

This year, every submission will earn positive points and the chance to have work featured on our social media. Plus, the more entries submitted, the more chances students have to win one of our exciting prizes at the end of the challenge! 🏆✨

Whether you are a passionate artist or simply keen to try something new, get involved, get creative and see where your imagination takes you. Let's make this our biggest, boldest and most creative Sketchtober yet. We cannot wait to see what you create! 😊

🦢✨ City of Code and Lights Parade! ✨🦢

As part of the annual City of Codes and Light Festival, our students have worked diligently during the lantern workshops to create two beautiful lanterns, Pegasus and Cygnus. We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved. We hope you will join the celebrations this Saturday 3 October at the Cornerstone Church, for an evening amongst the stars.

Ray & Flash will kick off the event at 6.00pm with a theatrical light show, before the church is transported to another world through light and colour. The parade will then set off from Fred Roche gardens, walking the street of Milton Keynes before returning to the gardens where Britain's Got Talent 2024 semi-finalists Northants Sings Out finish the evening on a high-note with their sensational club classics performance.

We would also love to see members of our school community come along to support the festival, cheer on our students and enjoy what promises to be a fantastic community event. 💖

📚✨ Celebrating a Love of Literature and Creativity ✨📚

We were proud to see one of our own, Mrs Brooker our Head of Year 13, taking part in the MK Literature Festival at the weekend, alongside a range of authors and independent publishers.

The festival was a fantastic celebration of reading, storytelling and creative writing, highlighting the power of literature to inspire imaginations and bring communities together. Events like these remind us that reading and writing can open doors to new ideas, experiences and opportunities.

As a school, we are passionate about fostering a love of reading and encouraging our students to develop their own creativity, confidence and voice through literature. 📖 ✍️
