This week we were also awarded our Rights Respecting School Silver Award. This award recognises our commitment to explicitly embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in our policy, practice and culture. Our children and young people see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness and children’s rights, both locally and globally. This award could not be achieved without the hardwork of our staff and children and our thriving partnership work with parents and community groups so thank you all for your continued support.

Before the Easter holidays P4 - P7 had the opportunity of working with renowned local artist, Harry Sutton. The children and Harry worked together on a Carbon Neutrals Island project to create artwork depicting our island in the future if we did/ did not become Carbon Neutral. All their work will be on display to the public in the Garrison from Wednesday 24th April but here is a sneak peak! I am sure you will agree there we have talented artists.

An excting week in Cumbrae Primary! This week we received our Reading Schools Silver Award. This recognises the fantastic opportunites our learners have to be immersed in a culture of reading in our school. "As well as sustaining the foundational work of Core level, Reading Schools Silver is based around schools providing additional opportunities to broaden their learners’ experiences, such as engaging with authors, visiting libraries, and bringing in other outside expertise." Thank you to Mrs Neilson who leads Literacy across the school.

This week, children in Primary 4 to 7 will begin receiving free golf coaching at Millport Golf Club as part of their PE programme. We are very lucky to have this opportunity. All children who live on Cumbrae receive free membership of the golf club - a fantastic way to develop your fitness and improve your wellbeing at the weekend or after school. Coaching opportunities are available too.

Primary 6/7 recently entered a competition to create a model of the Waverley. They had lots of fun and used many maths skills to get it proportionally correct. The Waverley is especially imprortant to us because it sometimes docks in Millport bringing tourism to our island. Guess what? We won!!!!! The class will now have a day out on the Waverley travelling from Greenock back to Millport! Well done P6/7.
