Why is Makaton important?

Nest:
This week in Nest, we’ve been enjoying lots of story time, with a particular interest in our That’s Not My… touch-and-feel books. The children have loved exploring the different textures throughout the stories, making this a wonderful opportunity for sensory exploration while developing their early love of books.

Pips:
Pips have been exploring herbs through sensory play this week. We added mint, basil, rosemary and coriander to our foam play and play dough, creating lots of lovely aromas to investigate. The children enjoyed smelling, touching and exploring the different herbs, providing a wonderful experience for their senses.

Trees:
Trees have been learning all about land and sea animals and exploring the differences between their habitats. This led to some lovely conversations about where animals live and then encouraged the children to think about their own homes and the special people they live with.
We’ve also been developing our hand-eye coordination through fun ball games, practising throwing balls into hoops and working on our aim, coordination and physical skills.

A huge well done to all of our children for settling into their new rooms so beautifully. We are so proud of how well you’ve adapted to your new surroundings, new friends and new adults.

We’re looking for a Nursery Room Lead to join our wonderful team and create a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment where children can learn, grow and thrive.
As a Room Lead, you’ll be responsible for leading and supporting your room team, delivering high-quality care and learning, supporting the EYFS, building positive relationships with families and championing the individual needs of every child.

We’re looking for someone who:
• Holds a recognised Level 3 Early Years qualification or above
• Has experience working in an Early Years setting
• Has a strong knowledge of the EYFS and safeguarding
• Is confident leading, motivating and supporting a team
• Is organised, proactive and passionate about Early Years
• Is committed to providing outstanding care and learning opportunities

Top Tip for Parents: Settling into Nursery

Starting nursery is a big step for little ones! A calm and consistent settling-in routine can help your child feel safe, secure and confident as they get to know their new surroundings and educators. Be patient, positive and reassuring — every child settles at their own pace.

Try:

• Talking positively about nursery at home
• Keeping drop-offs calm, confident and consistent
• Bringing a favourite comforter or familiar item, if appropriate
• Keeping goodbye routines short and reassuring
• Sharing your child’s routines, interests and comforts with their educators
• Giving your child time — every child settles at their own pace
A positive and consistent approach helps children feel safe, secure and confident as they begin their nursery journey.

Weekly Round Up

The Nest

This week in The Nest, we have been exploring our senses through creative and sensory activities. We enjoyed experimenting with foil and bubble wrap painting, discovering the different textures and marks they created. We also explored a space-themed tuff tray, encouraging the children to investigate and learn more about the world around them.

We have also been getting to know some of our new friends who will be joining The Nest in September. We have enjoyed spending time together, learning about each other's interests, likes and dislikes and beginning to build new friendships.

Pips

Pips have been embracing messy play this week with our mud and nature pictures. We mixed soil, bark, water and lots of other natural materials to create our own pictures and explore different textures. This hands-on activity encouraged sensory exploration, creativity and curiosity as we discovered what happened when we combined different materials.

Trees

Trees have been putting their problem-solving and fine motor skills to the test with a fun tape, tweezer and Compare Bear activity. The children worked out how to manipulate the tweezers between the pieces of tape to rescue the bears, developing concentration, hand-eye coordination and control.

We have also been focusing on giving meaning to the marks we make. Using water paints, stamps and chalks, the children have been encouraged to explore different ways of making marks and expressing their ideas creatively.

Forest School

This week at Forest School, we have been learning all about fire safety. We talked about how to stay safe around fires, why we must follow safety rules and how to behave responsibly when using the Forest School space.

Getting Ready for School

Going to school can be an intimidating prospect for children. It is a big change, bringing new surroundings, new routines, new faces and lots of new experiences.

As parents and carers, there are lots of simple ways we can help children feel confident and emotionally ready for this exciting next step.

Talking openly about school can help children understand what to expect. Encourage them to share their feelings and reassure them that it is completely normal to feel nervous, excited or even a little worried.

Reading stories about starting school, practising routines and encouraging independence can all help children feel more prepared. Simple things such as putting on their own coat, managing their belongings, using the toilet and asking an adult for help can make a big difference to their confidence.

Most importantly, remind your child that they do not have to know everything before they start. School readiness is about feeling secure, developing independence and knowing that there will always be a trusted adult there to support them.

Let's help our Preschooler children approach this exciting new chapter with confidence, curiosity and a sense of belonging.

🌿 Weekly Round Up 🌿

Nest 🎨
This week, Nest have been getting creative with cling film painting, supporting their exploration skills and creative thinking. We have also been enjoying a wonderful range of sensory experiences, exploring textures such as gloop, feathers, paint and shaving foam! Some of our children have also been settling into the Pips room, exploring their new garden space and building lovely relationships with new adults and peers. 💛

Pips 🏴‍☠️
Pips have been “walking the plank” this week, using our wooden beams to practise our gross motor and balancing skills! With our arms held out to help us balance, everyone safely made it to the end. This activity supported our core strength, focus and body awareness. We have also continued enjoying our popular bean bag toss, practising our hand-eye and bilateral coordination while building core stability. ⭐

Trees 🐌
This week, Trees have been developing their hand-eye coordination and control through play dough activities using one-handed tools and cutlery. With the wetter weather, we have also noticed lots of snails coming out to play! The children have been very curious about why they appear after the rain, discovering how the wet ground helps snails move more easily and prevents them from drying out. 🌧️🌿

🧸🌸 Teddy Bears’ Picnic at Hidden Garden!🌸🧸

We hosted a wonderful Teddy Bears’ Picnic for all our children and their parents! 💛 It was a lovely afternoon filled with cuddly teddy bears, delicious picnic treats, laughter and lots of special moments shared together. 🧺✨

A huge thank you to all our wonderful families for joining us and making it such a memorable day! 🧸🌿💕
