PeterPan Pre School Running as a small group, under the care of Kay, and staff since 2001, Peter Pan offers a home from home learning environment for all children.

OFSTED rated GOOD, we pride ourselves on giving quality care and education in line with government legislation and are able to provide one to one learning opportunities for your children. Activities include crafts, numbers and letters, painting, baking, constructing and lots of outside play. We have a small garden area with climbing equipment and a mud kitchen plus bikes, trikes and cars. We enjoy growing things and exploring our natural environment.Staff are highly qualified, with specific child care qualifications as well as holding full paediatric first aid certificates and updated DBS checks. We are trained in special educational needs and safeguarding. Children can enjoy stimulating indoor and outdoor areas, regular trips to local farms, the theatre etc... and we hold strong links with all local primary schools. We offer free 15 or 30 hours childcare places for 3&4 year olds, and if criteria fits 2 year olds. We offer flexibility, so if you need an extra session or to change a day we will accommodate this where we can. We follow the Early years foundation stage and use jolly phonics for early sounds and letters. We have a regular weekly visit from Playmakers who are a professional and fully qualified PE lesson provider. We have regular dance classes from the Collins school of dance. We enjoy strong relationships with all our parents and we will work with you to ensure that your children have the best and most fulfilling start to their education journey. All children will have a learning journal completed whilst they are with us and this is filled with photographs, observations and memories for you to keep. Each child has their own key-worker who will be responsible for setting them in and completing the learning journals.

WEEK BEGINNING 12.10.26
This week we are celebrating Mental Health Awareness week and Black History month. We have introduced the basics of emotional awareness, safety and connection through age-appropriate learning. We have talked about recognising feelings, understanding that we belong, how to build empathy alongside co-regulation and simple self-soothing techniques. The colour monster story was the source that we used . It is about a little monster who wakes up confused and with his emotions jumbled together. A little girl helps him to sort each feeling out a link it to a colour. We have made stress balloons using flour and a balloon. The children fill the balloons with flour to develop fine motor skills, emotional regulation and tactile exploration. We have completed our window display of “The Scarecrows Wedding”. This story supports the children to understand loyalty and commitment, problem solving and perseverance, teamwork and cooperation, language and rhyme along with Harvest time and nature. We have made painted pasta to make friendship bracelets. Developing hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and social emotional awareness, the children threaded pasta onto string and then tied the ends. This activity also encourages understanding of patterns and maths. The “celebrate Diversity” yarn heart combines fine motor skills with a visual representation of identity and multiculturalism. The children are able to wrap and weave the yarn as they self-identify and look at shades of colour that represents themselves. The completed heart represents kindness.
“I have a dream cloud” helps the children to explore themes of kindness, fairness, and equality. The children made a cloud and then added coloured strips of paper to represent a rainbow onto which they add their thoughts and feelings. This activity encourages fine motor skills and helps the children to articulate their hopes and feelings..
We made traffic light biscuits to celebrate Garrett Morgan for Black History month. He patented the 3 position traffic light in 1923. The children were able to investigate road safety awareness as we talked about the sequence of the lights and colours and what they meant. Developing fine motor skills, early patterns and sequencing and following instructions.
We have celebrated Milly’s 3rd birthday too.

WEEK BEGINNING 5.10.26
This week we have been investigating International Space week. The children will develop sensory exploration, problem solving, critical thinking and language development. We have used a paper plate to make space helmets allowing the children to build their fine motor skills using scissors and small movements. The activity also enables role play and imaginative play. We have made sun catchers of the earth. The children add blue and green crepe paper to make the land and sea. This activity helps the children to explore light, colours and textures. We have talked about space and what we might find there and investigated the planets and stars developing the children’s knowledge and language development. To celebrate the start of Mental Health Awareness week we have talked about how we feel and matched our feelings to colours from The colour monster story. This activity helps the children to match feelings with specific colours and encourages them to talk about how they are feeling. We have welcomed a new friend to our family in James.

WEEK BEGINNING 28.9.26
This week we have celebrated Harvest and all that it means. We have made bread and turned it into hedgehogs. Baking bread supports learning by combining sensory exploration with maths and physical development. Using gross motor skills as they mix and knead, developing language as new words are learnt to describe what the children are doing, weight and measure concept as ingredients are weighed, sensory awareness and scientific prediction as they begin to understand how yeast makes the dough rise. For international coffee day the children used coffee filter papers and pipettes to print. This is a process art activity where liquid colours spread by capillary action. The children are able to learn how to fill the pipette using a pinch and release action. Once the paint is released onto the paper, they are able to observe how the liquid is absorbed and spreads. The colours mix creating new ones, developing colour recognition. Based on observations of the children we have practised our pencil grip and mark making skills. Strengthening hand and finger muscles the children move from a digital pronate to static tripod grips in readiness for early writing and a tripod grip. Based on the children’s interest we have done some dinosaur footprint painting with potatoes. This activity is sensory which allows the children to explore creativity whilst strengthening cognitive and physical skills. Colour recognition is also developed and pattern recognition. We have celebrated Isaac’s birthday too.

IMPORTAT UPDATE

We have a child in setting who has tested positive for Covid today. Please keep an eye on your children as a precaution . There is no longer any reason for children to be kept off but it would be advisable if you suspect your child has Covid to keep them off to avoid spread of infection

Week Beginning 21.9.26
This week we have continued to work on our Autumn themed window displays whilst celebrating the Jewish festival of Yom Kippur. We made Forgiving fingers using the children’s own handprints. Yom Kippur is the Jewish way of Forgiveness. We talked to the children about saying sorry and giving the opportunity to heal friendships with their peers. The children had to think of a time you may need to say sorry and we wrote this on to a heart shape and attached it to each of the fingers on their hand. This activity supports cultural diversity and also helps the children to think about their emotions. It develops personal, social and emotional understanding and assists them to resolve conflict. We have made Scarecrow faces using a aper plate. Providing a hands-on activity where the children practice and develop fine motor skills, explore different textures, and learn about facial features. Building on the children’s own creativity and depiction they added eyes, nose and a mouth along with straw for the hair. They then developed scissor control by cutting out a hat. Teaching children effective use of scissor gives them essential hand strength, fine motor control and bi-lateral coordination. We have been using torches to allow the children to investigate cause and effect, how light travels in straight lines and how shadows can change shape or size when the light moves. Learning about shadows helps the children to explore basic science concepts and spatial awareness. We made some silhouette drawings by shining lights on each other and drawing the shapes we could see reflected. This activity helps the children to understand shape recognition, visual perception, contrast and spacial awareness. Bubble print leaf pictures were made The children use paint mixed with water which they then blow through a straw to create patterns into a template. Focusing on fine motor skills, sensory exploration and language development as the children use descriptive language to support textural understanding and colour changes. We have celebrated Willows’s 3rd birthday too with a cake.
