Say Yes to Mess! 🎨🌿

Mud on knees, paint-covered fingers, sand in shoes and water everywhere. It might look like mess, but for children it can be an experiment, an adventure, a work of art or a new discovery.

We’ve launched The Mess Report, new research exploring how families feel about messy play and whether children today are getting enough opportunities to experience it.

After speaking to 1,000 UK parents of children under 10, we found that 79% agree messy play supports children’s development, creativity and wellbeing, yet 70% believe children today don’t get enough opportunities to get messy.

We’re calling this The Mess Gap.

The Mess Report explores what might be behind that gap, why opportunities to pour, squash, mix, dig, build, splash and create are so valuable, and how we can make more space for them in childhood.

At Kids Planet, we’re proud to say Yes to Mess because we know there is method in the mess, and behind every muddy handprint and paint splatter is an opportunity for learning.

This morning the babies have enjoyed a beach party to cool down in this lovely hot weather. We've been digging in the sand, splashing in the paddling pool, and dancing while listening to beach music. ⛱️🪣💦

Today we enjoyed some water play in the sunshine while exploring a variety of fruits! 🍋🍊🍓

The children used their fine motor skills to squeeze juice from different fruits, creating their own fruity drinks and discovering new flavours through tasting. Water play helped keep everyone cool while encouraging sensory exploration, hand strength, and lots of fun learning opportunities.

A wonderful way to stay refreshed and make the most of the sunny weather! ☀️💦🍹

We have a big interest in doing our own hair with hair brushes so today we made the interest become imaginative with hair washing this afternoon- the children washed Ellie & Raya's hair! They had lots of fun role playing scrubbing, using pretend shampoo bottles and staying cool with the water pool🚿☀️

🌧️💦 Who said children can't have fun learning in the rain? 😊

Stacey's group enjoyed a hands-on learning experience outdoors today. The children explored counting in the environment while listening to the natural sounds around them. They collected and measured water, using mathematical words such as full, empty, more, less, big, and small. A wonderful opportunity to develop early maths skills through play, exploration, and discovery! 🔢🌿☔
