As part of our St Francis celebrations, year one thought about how we can follow St Francis’ example by caring for God’s wonderful world🌍
We each wrote a promise showing something we can do to care for creation. We will create a St Francis tree with our promises, showing how small actions can make a big difference.

To celebrate the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi and the 800th anniversary of his death, our Chaplaincy Team led a whole school assembly to teach us more about his life, faith and mission.
Each class was then given a special activity linked to St Francis’ example of caring for others, protecting creation and prompting peace🌍

Squiggle While You Wiggle!

In our Squiggle While You Wiggle sessions, we’ve been exploring how our big movements can make their way onto paper!

We started by learning our up and down and round and round movements, moving our scarves to the tunes of “The Only Way Is Up” and “You Spin Me Right Round” 🎶. The children were encouraged to make BIG movements, helping to build strength, coordination and develop those important cross-lateral movements.

We even had some very thoughtful comments from the children about their arms feeling achy and how we were “building our muscles”! What a fantastic way to recognise what our bodies are doing and the effort we are putting in.

We then took all those big movements and transferred them onto paper while lying on our tummies. This encouraged us to use our whole upper body to create large-scale marks, supporting the development of early mark-making skills. 🌟💪✍️

A very special thank you to one of our wonderful nursery parents for sharing this beautiful photo of one of our nursery boys and his family taking time during their caravan weekend to pause, reflect and pray together. 💙

What a beautiful reminder that October, the month of the Holy Rosary, gives us an opportunity to make time for prayer wherever we may be. 🙏

This morning, our Nursery children gathered together to celebrate St Francis of Assisi, whose feast day was yesterday.

We listened to the story of St Francis from our special Stories of Saints book and talked about how he showed such a deep love for God and for all that God created. The children recognised that, just like St Francis, we can show our love for God by caring for the wonderful world around us.

We had lots of fun singing ‘If I Were a Butterfly’ and learning the actions, giving thanks to God for all the amazing things He has created, including each and every one of us!

We linked our learning to change of seasons to autumn and how we can recognise this in the world around us. The children shared their ideas about changing leaves, cooler weather and the signs of autumn they have noticed.

In our areas, the children created their own nature pictures, using some real natural resources and exploring leaf-printing painting.

St Francis reminds us that we are all part of God’s wonderful creation and have a responsibility to love, respect and care for one another and our world. 💚

Year 1 Class Mass⛪️🙏🏻

A huge thank you to the parents and carers who joined us this morning for our year one class mass at St Mary's RC Cathedral, Middlesbrough this morning. It was wonderful to have so many of you there with us there to celebrate with us🙏🏻

We are incredibly proud of all of our year one children. Many members of our parish community commented on how beautifully behaved and respectful the children were throughout mass which was so lovely to hear.

Well done Year 1, we are so incredibly proud of you🌟

🍂🎨 Reception used the autumn treasures collected on our walk to create our own leaf people! 🍁👀

Through this creative activity, we designed and made our own creations, and noticed the colours, shapes and textures found in nature. 🌿
