The current Student Officers at Teesside University Students’ Union added: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Lord Sawyer and send our thoughts and condolences to his loved ones. In an already long and distinguished career, he provided exceptional service and invaluable wisdom as Chancellor of Teesside University. We also know his great commitment to ensuring the student voice was heard and acted on is fondly remembered by former Student Officers and long serving members of our staff team.”

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Lord Sawyer of Darlington, who was a passionate advocate for social justice and a cherished friend and former Chancellor of Teesside University.

Lord Sawyer served as our Chancellor from 2005 to 2017. He was a vocal champion of our mission and values, and his legacy lives on through the lives he helped to improve through his leadership and public service.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all of those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
