⚽️ MATCH REPORT | PENYDARREN 5–0 GURNOS ⚽️

A brilliant performance today as we welcomed our local friends and rivals Gurnos. With many of the players friends and schoolmates away from football, there’s always a little extra excitement around this fixture, especially as the two teams haven’t met for over a season.

Both sides started with a few nerves, but Penydarren quickly took control despite the torrential rain. After hitting the woodwork several times, Cameron Martin struck the crossbar and Kai John reacted quickest, catching the dropping ball brilliantly on the half-volley to open the scoring.

Gurnos tried to respond, but we continued to push forward with some strong runs from Riley Keddle, before Alyan Shahid produced a fantastic strike from distance.

Brae James, playing against his former team, made an immediate impact with some excellent runs in behind and was unlucky not to score from a couple of one-on-ones.

We settled straight back into our football after the break, with Alyan grabbing his second with another superb effort from distance.

Brae continued causing problems and forced a great save from the Gurnos keeper, only for the rebound to fall to Hudson, who calmly put it away.

One of the best moves of the game came on the counter. Theo Presley drove forward from his own half and found Kai, who produced an outstanding long ball through to Jaxon Thomas. Jaxon raced through and looked certain to score, only for the Gurnos keeper to produce a fantastic save.

Cameron Martin rounded off the scoring, meeting a free kick with a powerful header into the back of the net.

A brilliant result and, more importantly, a brilliant team performance. The boys are really beginning to settle together and are looking like a very strong unit heading into the season.

An outstanding effort playing three different positions — CDM, CAM and centre-back.

🌟 Opposition MOTM — Brae James
A superb performance against his former team, with his movement and runs in behind causing problems throughout.

Credit to the whole squad today. Everyone contributed, worked for each other and played their part.

A great game between two local teams, played in good spirits despite the weather. 👏⚽️

Penydarren U13s 3–2 Abercynon black U13s ⚽

A great confidence boost for the lads today against a very good Abercynon side, and a real marker of how far this group has come.

The boys started brightly and Alyan, playing up front, gave us the lead with a great finish. Abercynon responded, but we continued to play with confidence.

Our second came after Riley’s shot was saved, with Theo reacting well and showing great composure to put the ball into the back of the net.

Abercynon responded brilliantly with 2 great goals.

At 2–2 the boys showed a lot of resilience and kept pushing for the winner. From a short corner Theos shot was saved, Cameron Martin was first to react and squared the ball for Kai John to finish and make it 3–2.

Every player played their part. It was great to have Joel back and playing well, Fillip and Dan led the team brilliantly, Miffy took his game to another level bringing the ball out from the back, and Mason controlled the middle.

Hudson, Riley and Alyan gave us a real attacking threat, while Cameron, Jaxon and Jac chased everything and didn’t give an inch. Theo looked as comfortable and composed as ever, and Kai produced another great performance topped off with the winning goal.

Ralph and William are improving week in, week out, making some great saves and playing with real confidence.

Most importantly, they played as a team, worked for each other and did everything we asked of them.

A really positive performance against a strong Abercynon team and a nice marker of the hard work the lads have been putting in.
