Okay, so when I worked in fitness and was on the gym floor, I could clock up 15,000–20,000 steps without even thinking about it.

Fast forward to a tutoring job, where it was pretty easy to get between 7,000–10,000 a day. And if I wanted to get a few more in, I had to make a little bit of an effort.

I mean… not a massive effort. Probably about a 3/10 effort. 😂

But fast forward to today. New job. And this time, it’s not a job in fitness. It’s a proper grown-up teaching job.

Got to 3pm, checked my watch…

1,500 STEPS. 😳

So guess what? I’m with you guys. Just keeping it real over here.

I have now got to make a proper 8/10, possibly 9/10 effort to get out and be active.

And do you know what? You HAVE to make an effort.

Nothing comes easy. If you want to stay fit and healthy, sometimes you’ve got to get off your arse and go and do it.

Health, like everything else, is a case of you get out what you put in.

Now… where are my trainers? Because I also wore normal clothes today too….

Whilst I might not have quite lived up to my 17-year-old self’s expectations of a West End stage career,

At least I’ve managed to get here to teach Pilates - so my schoolgirl self would probably be pretty happy with where I’ve ended up.

This weekend I’m back in the teaching space, delivering Future Fit’s Level 3 Mat Pilates course in London — sharing something I’ve come to love just as much as performing: helping other people develop the skills and confidence to do what they love.

Funny how careers don’t always turn out the way you imagined at 17… but sometimes they turn out pretty brilliantly anyway.

Love having the room to myself to practise. .
The names of the moves still confuse me after all this time in exercise we all call things different things!
As long as you can follow what I’m talking about!

I don’t mean to be ranty or rage-baitey, but as a fitness professional, I’m increasingly frustrated by something I’m seeing.

I’ve worked in fitness for 8 years, but I’ve also trained in gyms, to varying degrees, for around 25 years. I know what the body can realistically achieve through training, nutrition and lifestyle changes.

So when I see dramatic weight-loss transformations being attributed entirely to PT, gym sessions and “clean eating”, when it’s pretty obvious GLP-1/peptide medication has played a role… it’s super frustrating.

And before anyone gets defensive: there is ZERO shame in using these medications.

If you’ve chosen to use them to improve your health and wellbeing, genuinely — well done. They can be an incredibly useful tool.

But please be honest about it.

Because when someone loses a huge amount of weight and says it was simply “the gym and eating clean”, it gives everyone else completely unrealistic expectations.

They think: “Why can’t I achieve that? I’m training hard and doing everything right.”

And then they blame themselves.

They’re not failing. They’re comparing themselves to a completely different physiological process.

And yes, sometimes it’s obvious. The speed of the transformation, where the weight comes off and changes in proportions can tell a story.

When I’ve known you for 10+ years, watched you struggle to lose weight, and then suddenly the weight falls off when GLP-1s become mainstream… please don’t insult my intelligence. 😂

There is absolutely nothing wrong with saying:

“I’ve worked hard, changed my lifestyle and medication has helped me enormously.”

Just be proud of it.

No shame. No judgement. Just honesty.

I’ve finally found the perfect wrist and ankle weights! 💕 They’re comfortable, secure, beautifully made and add just the right amount of resistance to Pilates, walks and home workouts. Plus, who says fitness accessories can’t look stylish?

The leopard print is a lovely bonus! 🐆💪 Definitely one of my favourite fitness purchases this year.

They came from Amazon!

Today I was NOT fired up.
I was also counting down the minutes until I could go home.

You don’t have to feel motivated to keep your promises to yourself though!

Instead of telling yourself you need to smash a full workout…

➡️ Commit to 20 minutes.
➡️ If you’ve got more in you, make it 30.
➡️ Feeling good? Push it to 40.

Once you’ve started, you’ll keep going. And if you don’t? You still turned up, moved your body, and built the habit.

Progress isn’t made by perfect workouts. It’s made by consistently doing something. Anything.

Because something will always beat nothing. 💪
