It was great last week to finally watch live A truly classy golfer and professional in all aspects.
The way she plots and positions her way around a golf course is something special, and it is 💯 something that amateur golfers should be copying.
It goes without saying that her technique is world class, but her pre-shot routine never changed and was clearly following a strategy around
I always recommend golfers to walk there course backwards, starting from the 18th green. You will see a totally different golf course. Look for where you can miss the green, where you can miss fairways….and still have a good angle into the green.
There is so much more to playing this great game than just technique. If you need any help with Course Management, Building a Score, Developing a Strategy please reach out.

These packages are perfect for mid-season….your season is well under way now..how’s it going? Your pattern for the year is created….are you where you want to be or do you need to make some changes?
A 2 hour on course lesson followed up by two or four 1 hour coaching sessions focusing on issues picked up during the on course sessions.
This is a great way to learn what you do on the course and what is really holding your game back…and how to fix it.
On course sessions offer no hiding place…this is a true reflection of what you actually do on the course.
Is it really technique holding you back? Or can you save shots with better course management? Or is it a balance of both (usually the case).

My current reading.
Sir Nick Faldo was my golfing idol growing up and still one of my favourite swings of all time. He played golf the proper way, fairways and greens and was an amazing iron player.
The first time I saw Nick play live I was 12 years of age and it was at The Open at Royal St George’s, Rd.3 playing with Greg Norman and Corey Pavin. As a kid I’d never heard sounds like it when he struck an iron!
Note the position of his right foot in these pictures and compare that to where yours is at the part of the swing. Very rarely do I get a player booking a lesson asking@to improve their footwork but golfers really should spend more time working on this area.
6th putt was my favourite!!
As well as the shorter putts I practiced a few days ago, I also practiced some 30-40 foot putts too…get good at that range and hopefully I won’t have many of the testy shorter ones!
My priority at this stage with my putting is to develop a purposeful pre-shot routine, get used to the new putter and develop some good feels again. If I want to be consistent then the preparation for each shot needs to be as purposeful as possible.
What I was doing here?
⛳️ Lining the ball up to where I wanted the ball to start. The training balls I use are half/half so I can also see the roll that I am applying to the ball. The more feedback I can receive the better. So can I start the ball where I want and can I create a good roll.
⛳️ I have always done my practice swings from the side of the ball. Here though I was doing them from behind the ball whilst looking at the hole; 3 practice strokes each time, trying to create the feel I think will get the ball to the hole whilst visualising the journey the ball will go on.
⛳️Putting my hands on the club before I get to the ball. This way I have created the shrimp and structure that I’m after and when I go over the ball all I need to do is line the line on my putter up with the line on the ball and then recreate the feels in my practice strokes.
⛳️ You’ll notice I always stay in my posture and hold my finish for as long as possible. This has always helped my feel. I see many golfers hit it and stand up straightaway and they lose so much information from that.
A pre-shot routine will be different for each person but I highly recommend you create one and be as disciplined with it as possible.
After the putt, don’t just judge it by if the ball went in the hole. Instead judge your putting by:
- did you start the ball where you wanted to?
- did the putt do what you thought it was going to do?
- did you get the distance correct?
Be strict and disciplined here and I’m confident your putting will become more consistent.
Enjoyed having a practice putting session last night. First time in years tbh!
I really want to make putting a strength of my game again so I’ve purchased a new putter (TaylorMade Spider Tour X) and over the next two months will work on this area consistently.
My priority in this session was to develop a pre shot routine and to be disciplined in sticking to that in each shot. Technically I wanted to see if I could get comfortable with a particular grip. This is something I can struggle with when changing putters. So my first attempt on this session was to use a grip taught me back in 2010 ish.
It felt comfortable straight away and whilst there’s part of the stroke/technique I don’t like I felt happy with the outcomes tbh.
I love putting with these half/half balls as it allows you to see the roll of the ball easily. Highly recommend investing in some of these from Amazon or the website.
Make sure to stay disciplined in your practice and have a clear idea of what success for your session looks like.
Some great scores at the weekend from clients and who went low at their respective courses North Warks and Copt Heath.
Two great lads with huge talents, but their work rates and personalities are equally as impressive 👏
Keep up the great work lads ⛳️
