Tip of the week- Plan your weekly meals!
Shop with purpose, planning your weekly meals could help you save money, reduce your food waste, and test out plenty of tasty recipes. Often people buy without purpose, and this could be one of the main culprits for forgotten and moldy food at the back of your fridge.
Things I would recommend keeping track of:
1. Inventory list – keep track of what is already in your fridge, pantry, and freezer, what needs to be used up fast, how you can incorporate those into your next week’s meal plan, and what is missing that you would like to add to your list.
2. Meal plan - start off with your go-to meals, then start incorporating new recipes per week to get familiar with the method. I tend to bring out all my recipe books and scour the internet for new recipes before heading out to the store. I take into consideration that some nights, I may want to have take-away, or will not feel like cooking, so will try to batch cook, and freeze for anticipated lazy days.
3. Grocery list – write or type up all the ingredients you will need for your weekly meal and head out.
Optional – recipe track-keeping!
The journey to zero food waste is imperfect, but we can focus on doing our best to reduce as much as we feasibly can. This tip of the week comes from our project leader, Arielle.
