We are a family run business owned by husband and wife team Liz and Ed Raine. We operate two day care nurseries based in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Little Rascals opened its doors in July 2007 providing quality care for children aged 12 weeks to 5 years. Since then the setting has gone from strength to strength gaining a great local reputation. In July

2010 the hard work and dedication of the staff gained recognition, when the setting was awarded OUTSTANDING in every area of their practice by OFSTED. Little rascals is located just outside of Melton town centre, off Nottingham road. Our building is a converted detached house which has beed thoughtfully decorated with light colours and soft furnishings to achieve a homely feel. Our setting occupies a large plot of land allowing for parking facilities at the rear of the premises and plenty of outdoor space for the children to use each and every day. As proprietor Liz takes a very hands on approach to the day to day running of the setting. Having recently become a mother herself, Liz understands the anxieties and stresses that every parent faces when leaving their child in the care of others for the first time. Little Rascals aims to provide a stimulating, homely environment where children feel loved and respected and parents feel happy in the knowledge that their child is being cared for by experienced and dedicated staff. If you have not yet visited our nursery why not come and see for yourself and meet our friendly staff team. Come along at a time convenient to you or alternatively give us a call to arrange a full viewing.

At Little Rascals, we love offering children simple, open-ended resources and seeing where their curiosity takes them.
A few pieces of fabric can become so much more than we might expect. As children touch, scrunch, pull, wave, hide and move the materials, they are exploring textures and sensations, while developing hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
Because there is no set way to use them, children can take the lead, make their own choices and use their creativity and imagination to explore.

Our Little Rascals had lots of fun joining Laura from Tiny Talk for a fun-filled Sing & Sign session!
Singing, signing and action songs are a wonderful way for our children to develop communication and language, build confidence and learn new words through repetition. The actions also encourage movement, coordination and listening skills — all while having lots of fun together!
We love watching the children join in, copy the actions and have a go at signing and singing along.

A little look at another busy week at Little Rascals!
Our children have been given lots of opportunities to explore, experiment and discover through their play. We’ve been finding different ways to explore water — pouring, filling, emptying, splashing and investigating what happens when we change things.
Mark making has also been a big part of our week, with children exploring different materials, tools and surfaces to create their own marks and follow their ideas.
Alongside this, there’s been plenty more curiosity-led play, from sensory exploration and creative activities to opportunities for physical play, problem solving and developing independence.
A week full of little discoveries, big ideas and lots of opportunities to learn through play.

There’s something a little emotional about this time of year.
As we get ready to say goodbye to our biggest Little Rascals as they head off to school, we’ve been looking back at all the memories they’ve made during their time with us. It’s been so lovely hearing them share their favourite moments, from the things they’ve loved doing to the special memories they’ll take with them.
From their very first days with us to the confident little people they are today, it’s been such a privilege to watch them learn, laugh, explore and grow.
We’re going to miss you all so much, but we know you’re ready for your next big adventure!

Our Little Rascals children spent the day exploring ice in a variety of ways, using it to paint, watching it melt in water, investigating fruit and taking a closer look with magnifying glasses. 🔍🍓
As the ice began to change, the children observed, questioned and experimented, discovering new textures, colours and patterns along the way. Simple resources, endless possibilities, and plenty of opportunities to follow their natural curiosity.

At Little Rascals, we believe children are capable, competent, and eager to do things for themselves. By giving them the time, space, and encouragement to have a go, we help them build confidence and develop skills that will support them throughout life.
Whether it’s putting on their own shoes and coats, serving their own food and drinks at mealtimes, or helping to tidy away after play, these everyday routines are powerful learning opportunities. They encourage children to take responsibility, solve problems, persevere through challenges, and feel proud of their achievements.
Independence isn’t about getting everything right the first time—it’s about having the confidence to keep trying. Every button fastened, drink poured, and toy put away is a step towards becoming a resilient, confident, and capable learner.
