Today, we join the millions of people across the world in mourning Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and in celebrating her lifelong commitment to serving the nation. We continue to offer our sincere condolences to the Royal Family during this difficult time, including our lifelong supporter, HRH Princess Beatrice.

We will forever remember her incredible legacy, duty and dedication to supporting the work of charities.

This is the final aspect of Specific Dyslexia tutoring. This describes how learning is developed and built up. Rather than teaching something and then moving on, assuming that the knowledge is stored, I ensure that structures are in place to continually revisit this knowledge. Sometimes that requires the knowledge to be revisited in a number of different ways and that is the best thing about tutoring; we can practice for as long as needed!
If this is of interest to you, please get in touch.

Following on from yesterday, explicitly teaching students rules that can ensure their success is the key to specific tuition.
So, when you change a verb to the past tense and add {-ed}, how do you know when the final consonant needs doubling?
I use the 1:1:1 rule; if your word has 1 syllable, 1 vowel and 1 consonant (such as 'hop') then it requires the final consonant to be doubled before adding {-ed}. So, hop=hopped, tap=tapped, plan=planned etc.
This is just the tip of the iceberg - get in touch if you would like to know more about how I can help with tuition.

This is my favourite part of my job - ensuring that tuition is explicit. Lots of what is taught in schools around reading, writing and spelling has an element of assumed knowledge whereby children are not learning rules that ensure success. Dyslexia tuition does this in bucket loads!
For example - do you know why the word 'hop' requires the final consonant to be doubled when changing to the past tense of 'hopped'?
In all honesty, until training to be a Specialist Dyslexia Teacher, I didn't know why - I just knew that it happened and I could read and spell the word without knowing why.
However, this is the not the case for most Dyslexic students; they need to know explicit rules so that they can always succeed.
PS - if you want to know why the 'p' is doubled in the word 'hopped', stay tuned!
