Oz Tots take 2 🎬

We are beyond excited to share with you all, that Oz Tots is having a large scale face lift and will be opening its doors to a brand new, purpose built setting for all our Tots to Play, Learn and Grow. The new building, located behind our current setting site, will also boast a wrap around adventure play ground, designed with all age groups and developmental needs in mind, that will lead across the fields into our Forest School.

Oz Tots turned 4 on 28th September 2024 and we are so thankful for all the support and dedication from our families and staff team to get us to where we are today. We are proud to be able to offer out this exceptional new space and will keep you updated with progress along the way!

Now taking registrations from January 2025.

🌳 🪶 🪵 Oz Tots Forest School 🪵 🪶🌳

We are thrilled to announce, our greatly anticipated Forest School site is ready and raring to go.

Our Tots have loved exploring and foraging through their new surroundings this week and deep diving into nature.

We hold daily sessions for each age group from 3 months to 4 years, following our newly developed curriculum, implemented by our fully qualified Forest School Teacher Steve!

Lots of our Ash trees on site were sadly victim to Ash die back, therefore had to safely be removed, so we will be utilising all the felled wood to create natural hedge fences, fires, whittling sticks, wood chip paths, stools, tables, and much more. Nothing goes to waste.

What is DSUK’s Sunflower Challenge?
Just like sunflowers, every child grows and blooms uniquely. This challenge for Nurseries and Primary Schools serves as a beautiful metaphor for the diversity and individuality that makes each child special.

❤️Lest we forget❤️

Throughout the nursery last week we had many activities linking to Remembrance Day🌹

In the acorns room they made sun-catcher poppies, in seedlings they had a poppy field themed tuff tray and in oaks they painted and decorated their own poppies.

🎃Dingle Dangle Scarecrow🎃

The oaks have been looking at the autumn theme this month. This scarecrow tuff tray allows them to feel all kinds of different textures and encourages them to use mathematics to count the objects on the tray such as the conkers 🍂

October is Down Syndrome awareness month, in which we can be inspired to learn more about this topic and to celebrate people born with Down syndrome and the medical advancements that increasingly improve their quality of life.

Bea joined our Oz Tots family in April 2023 and is the first Tot we've had with this diagnosis. Like all our children, she is an absolute delight to have, with a smile that quite literally lights up the room. She has encouraged the more frequent use of Makaton, and as a result her "Acorn" peers are taking these signs home and using them in their daily routines.

Upon joining, Bea's parents were very keen to spread the word on Down syndrome, raising awareness to others, so we have taken this opportunity to share Bea's story.

Words from Mummy, Lucy - Prior to Bea being born, I had never met anyone with Down’s Syndrome and knew nothing about it. When we got her diagnosis at birth it was a big shock and I was very upset. Over the past 2 years I have come to learn that it was nothing to cry over. Bea takes a little longer to learn things and is ‘behind’ developmentally, but she is also the cheekiest, funniest and happiest child. She adores bubbles and crisps, she claps herself a lot because she knows she is awesome, she has eyes that sparkle, and a wide happy smile. She can sign over 15 makaton signs and just said her first words ‘mama’, ‘dada’ and ‘bubble’! Being different makes her special and unique but isn’t a bad thing. Kids her age don’t even realise she has Down’s Syndrome and play with her without any judgement and I hope she can continue through her life as happy and care free as she is today, helping to break negative stereotypes of the syndrome. From Lucy, Tom, Beatrice and little sister Francesca

Our focus book this month will be "This is Me!" by George Webster - CBeebies presenter with Down syndrome and is a beautiful depiction of inclusivity and the differences between us being quite frankly, magic.

This afternoon our oaks went out into the garden and picked their own snack🍅🍓

Once they collected all the ripe tomatoes and strawberries they went indoors to give them a good wash. They then enjoyed tasting them as their afternoon snack.
