It was Friday 5th February and I was two weeks over my due date. I was booked in to be induced on Saturday 6th but I was still hopeful that I may go in to labour naturally beforehand as I’d lost my mucus plug earlier in the week and I just had a gut feeling things were progressing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Bobby had booked the Friday off work to spend the day with me and our firstborn, Rosie and we were at my mum and dad’s having lunch. I’d been having irregular tightenings for several days but they began to get more regular and a little stronger and so the excitement started to build!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We decided to leave Rosie at my mum and dad’s just in case anything progressed through the night and we headed home. I got straight on my ball and we watched some television. At 8pm my surges were still regular but they weren’t any stronger. I rang the hospital and they advised me to try and get some rest and arrive at 10am on Saturday as planned unless my surges became stronger. I got in to bed and managed to sleep pretty well. At 10am on Saturday morning we arrived at Preston hospital and got settled on the ward. When the midwife came to introduce herself she noticed I had a cough and although it wasn’t covid related she decided to move us into our own room. At 12pm I was given a pessary and the midwife advised me to rest for half an hour and then to get off the bed and move around as much as possible. Having our own room really worked in our favour as it was lovely and quiet and I had the space to move around freely. At 12.30 I got off the bed and had a bounce on the birthing ball, I danced around with Bobby to music on his phone and we did some crossword puzzles whilst I walked around the room. I felt so happy and relaxed! A couple of hours later and my surges were coming thick and fast. Bobby helped me to put my tens machine on and I put on some relaxing music and used the breathing techniques that Jenie had taught us. continue reading on the next post ... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
