Rib yoke research continues- 1x1 Fisherman’s Rib (Half Cardigan).

This isn’t for the faint hearted, rehanging the stitches is tricky, but I have found a technique that works. 😅

I haven’t posted in a while as I haven’t been able to spend much time in the studio. However, a post on FB this morning inspired me to revisit Guilloche stitch.

Someone was doing a similar technique but that required lots of transferring, so I shared this version. I realised that last time I did this without using a punch card to tuck on the main bed, so it was much trickier to do!!

This is such a fun, magical technique, it works brilliantly in fine linen yarn (grey sample) but is much nicer to knit in 2/30 merino (yellow sample).

I experienced my first LK150 today, a fun little machine and good that it’s so portable!

A great 1-2-1, we practiced shaping, in particular knitting shoulders and necklines and had a go at turning a heel just for fun 😊

We also made sense of a pattern Julie Halfpenny has been trying to knit, and she went home with a new set of instructions to follow 👍🏼

I really enjoy teaching 1-2-1 workshops, always great to meet new people and talk knitting 😃

I will always tailor the content to suit you and aim to facilitate whatever project you have in mind.

Recently Margaret came for a refresher and we had a great day practicing techniques that she can use to create some simple garments.

We took projects from her new book (which is great) and knitted socks and gloves. Throughout the day we covered a range of techniques including fully fashioned shaping, partial knitting, 1x1 rib and turned up hems at the bottom and top of a piece.

I have finalised the mitten, I’m much happier with the angle, shape and fit of the thumb…

I didn’t want a seam on the outside and so added the thumb into the seam…

I’ve been intrigued to see how this grey/ black yarn knits up and this seemed like the perfect project for it. 😊

I have sent the pattern to Ann, so I look forward to seeing some beautiful hat and mitten sets in her alpaca yarn …

I’ve had a great couple of days working with Ann to develop patterns for accessories.

The yarn is beautiful, a blend of shetland and alpaca from her own flock.

Ann is a complete beginner, so the patterns needed to be simple and work for her yarn on a chunky machine.

The mittens are still being tweaked, especially the thumb, but almost there I think.

I have written out step by step instructions, so fingers crossed she’ll soon be churning out the hats and ready to tackle the mittens.

I am teaching a week long machine knitting course at NTU (Nottingham) in August.

It is for beginners and improvers, we will create both single and double bed samples, so you should leave with a really good understanding of the machine, and lots of samples.

We have Brother, Knitmaster and Silver Reed machines, so you can work on which ever suits you 😊
