Do you want to boost your child's confidence, improve their communication and language skills, or encourage their love of literature, poetry, and drama? LAMDA lessons and examinations are designed to equip learners with transferable life skills regardless of their age or aspirations.

Every lesson is personalised to each learner's individual needs and goals. I can even integrate your school curriculum into lessons and performance work.

In particular, Verse and Prose, Reading for Performance, and Speaking in Public routes are fantastic for supporting development in English Literature and Language Studies - with the scope to touch on many more subjects such as creative writing, drama, history, and politics. Whatever you are interested in!

Lesson slots for new learners are available from September. I offer remote online and in-person lessons. Contact me via the details below if you'd like to chat about how I can help you!

Ending the summer term on a massive high as all my learners have achieved high merits and distinctions in Acting, Verse and Prose and Speaking in Public from Entry to Grade 8.

I am delighted for you all!!

But mostly, I am so proud to teach such thoughtful, intelligent young people, who are so committed to their learning and who rise up to every challenge they face in the process. You are all so much more than any exam grade!

Well done stars!

You may not have heard of LAMDA, so here's an overview and some FAQs:

WHO ARE LAMDA?
The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is one of the UK's most prestigious drama schools and the leading examination board for speech and drama.

Follow this link for more information on their website:
https://www.lamda.ac.uk/lamda-exams

WHAT ARE LAMDA EXAMS?
LAMDA offers examinations in performance and communication - the equivalent of taking an exam in a musical instrument. The LAMDA syllabus aligns with the national curriculum and is fully accredited by the Qualifications Curriculum Authority (QCA).

Introductory Level – Stage 1, 2, 3
Entry Level
Level 1 – Grades 1, 2, 3
Level 2 – Grades 4 and 5 (same tier as GCSE Exams)
Level 3 – Grades 6, 7, and 8: Bronze Medal, Silver Medal, Gold Medal (same tier as A-Level and BTEC Exams)

WHAT WILL I HAVE TO DO?
This depends on the course of learning and grade level you choose to take. I offer LAMDA tuition in Acting, Musical Theatre, Shakespeare, Verse and Prose, Reading for Performance, Public Speaking, Devising, and Mime.
You might perform a monologue or a song in character, present a poem or read a passage from a book, devise or write an original scene; you might even get to have a conversation on a topic you're passionate about. I help each learner choose pieces best suited to their strengths, learning goals, age, and grade level.

In the first section of the exam, you will give your performance, recital, or speech while the examiner watches. Then, in the second half of the exam (the 'Knowledge' section), you will be asked some questions and have a short discussion with the examiner.

HOW ARE LAMDA EXAMS MARKED?
Learners are marked out of 100. That is a maximum of 40 marks for interpretation, a maximum of 40 marks for technique, and another 20 for knowledge.
The interpretation mark reflects the learner's imaginative engagement with the text. It measures how well they have grasped and communicated its content. The technique mark reflects how the learner uses their physical and vocal skills to effectively express their message and engage the listener. The knowledge mark demonstrates the learner's understanding of language and/or performance techniques. Here, they can share their ideas and reasons for their choices.

Overall marks are awarded as follows:
80+ Distinction
65–79 Merit
50–64 Pass

WHY TAKE A LAMDA QUALIFICATION?
LAMDA lessons and exams are designed to equip learners with transferable life skills regardless of their age or aspirations. While working towards a LAMDA qualification, learners develop:

- A strong speaking voice
- Clarity, articulation, projection, and expression
- Poise, posture, and positive body language
- Confidence and self-assurance
- Reading fluency
- Enhanced memory and recall
- Improved English language skills
- Conversational skills
- The ability to structure a persuasive argument and debate
- A love of literature, poetry and drama
- Critical and creative thinking
- Empathy and sensitivity
- The ability to express their opinions and ideas and make their authentic voice heard!

These skills are built through many exciting, explorative games and learning challenges.

Learners will also receive a certificate to confirm and celebrate their achievements when they pass an exam. Level 3 learners (Grades 6, 7, and 8 ) will also receive a medal (Bronze, Silver, then Gold), which also carries UCAS points to support applications for further education.

Get in touch with me if you have more questions about LAMDA. I offer a free trial session to every new learner so we can work out which subject will bring out the best in you!

Welcome!

My name is Hannah. I'm a professional actor with a first-class BA (Hons) degree in Acting from Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, one of the UK's leading drama schools.

I have taught in youth theatres and drama clubs for several years and am a CPD-accredited LAMDA tutor in both the Performance and Communication syllabus strands. (LAMDA stands for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art - more info on that in my next post.)

I offer weekly lessons in Acting, Musical Theatre, Shakespeare, Verse and Prose, Reading for Performance, and Public Speaking.

- Solo, duo, or group lessons are available for learners aged five and upwards. Introductory/entry-level exams and Grades 1-8. Bronze, Silver, and Gold medal learners can earn UCAS points.

- £15 per 30-minute lesson and £25 per 1-hour private lesson, usually across ten weeks in alignment with school term dates. Duos and groups can split the cost per learner. Exam fees vary depending on grade level. Please get in touch, and we can discuss the best option for you!

- Lessons take place in person at my home in Matlock, Derbyshire, or online via Zoom. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and relevant safeguarding and first aid training.

- Not interested in taking an exam? No problem. I receive requests for one-off/short term sessions for those who just want to give drama a go and have fun! I can also assist students in preparation for drama school auditions.
