Netherhall School GCSE Results 2026

There have been many outstanding performances from the students of Netherhall School at GCSE level once again this year and we would like to pay tribute to the hard work, resilience and commitment shown by our students throughout their GCSE courses.

It was a great joy to see so many happy, smiling faces in school this morning as students came to collect their results from 8am, and the success the students have achieved is well and truly deserved, being the result of a consistent commitment to the highest standards over the last 2 years.

Notable performances came from Isla A, who secured an incredible 5 grade 9s in English literature, geography, biology, physics and art, along with 3 grade 8s in English language, maths and chemistry, and a grade 7 in Spanish. This is a truly remarkable performance and one which is extremely well deserved from a highly impressive student.

Louie F is also celebrating achieving a superb set of results, with 2 grade 9s in maths and chemistry, alongside 3 grade 8s in English language, physics and statistics, and a further 3 grade 7s in English literature, history and biology.

Keon W also secured a fantastic set of results, with 1 grade 9 in Spanish, alongside 6 grade 8s in English language, English literature, history, biology, chemistry and physics, and a grade 7 in maths.

Callum H was also delighted as he picked up a grade 9 in maths, 2 grade 8s in chemistry and Spanish, 5 grade 7s in English language, history, biology, physics and PE and a grade 6 in English literature.

In summary, the school would like to congratulate all of our excellent students for their superb achievements at GCSE level this year. It was fantastic to see so many delighted students and parents at school this morning marking this seminal occasion in the lives of our young people, who have once again represented themselves, their families, our school and the community of Maryport with absolute distinction.

Netherhall School A level and Vocational Results 2026

Congratulations to all of the brilliant students of Netherhall School’s Sixth Form who received their results today, both the students in this report and to the many other students who achieved great success today following the culmination of 2 years of intense study. Once again you have proven what can be achieved with the hard work, resilience and desire to fully realise your potential; you have set a fantastic standard for future students to follow. On behalf of all at Netherhall School and in the wider Maryport community, we wish you all the very best for what we are certain will be glittering future careers!

Pleasing results were achieved by many students, including:

Tyler H produced a sensational performance in his A level examinations with an A* in maths, a B in chemistry and a B in physics and told me he was delighted with his results as he will now go on to Bath University to read for a degree in chemical engineering. Tyler has really enjoyed his time in the sixth form and can’t wait to begin his university studies next month. Congratulations, Tyler!

Deputy Head Girl Mia G achieved a fantastic set of results, with a distinction in health and social care, a distinction in applied science and a C in RS. Mia told me she was both shocked and over the moon with her results and said she was really sad that her time at Netherhall School was over, thanking her teachers for all their support over the years. Mia begins her nuclear engineering degree apprenticeship at Sellafield Ltd shortly and can’t wait to get started. Congratulations, Mia!

Katie M secured a fantastic set of results, with a distinction in health and social care, a distinction in applied science and a C in RS. Katie told me she had really enjoyed her time in sixth form and was now looking forward to starting her adult nursing degree with the University of Cumbria in September. Congratulations, Katie!

Alfie V was celebrating an excellent set of results, with a grade B in English literature, a B in geography and a B in history. Alfie has loved his time in sixth form and will now read for a degree in history at the University of Lancashire in Preston. Congratulations, Alfie!

Jay T achieved a superb set of results with a distinction * in ICT, a B in PE and a C in maths. Jay told me he felt absolutely delighted with his results and that he was already enjoying his accountancy apprenticeship with Robinson and Co Accountants in Workington, which he began 7 weeks ago. Congratulations, Jay!

Amber W has recorded a fantastic set of A level results, with a grade B in French, a B in maths, a B in the EPQ and a C in English literature. Amber has enjoyed her time in the sixth form and is now looking forward to reading for a degree in maths and philosophy at the University of Liverpool. Congratulations, Amber!

Connor M told me he was really pleased with his A level results, securing a grade B in chemistry, a B in maths and a B in physics. He aims to secure an engineering apprenticeship and told me he had enjoyed his time in the sixth form and was grateful to all of his teachers for their support. Congratulations, Connor!

Sam A was delighted with his A level results, securing a grade B in biology, B in chemistry and a C in maths. Sam joined the sixth form having completed his GCSEs at Thirsk in Yorkshire, he told me his time with us has been fantastic and that his teachers have been amazing. Sam will now read for a degree in zoology at the University of Chester and can’t wait to start. Congratulations, Sam!

Head Boy Rhys K was delighted with his A level results, with a grade B in English literature, a B in history and a C in French. Rhys told me he was nervous before opening his results but was very happy with the outcome of his exams, he told me he was sad to be leaving Netherhall School and that it had been an honour to be the school’s Head Boy. Rhys will begin his degree in performing arts at the University of Sunderland next month and can’t wait to start. Congratulations, Rhys!

Luke T told me he was very pleased with his results, achieving a distinction* in ICT, a B in the EPQ, a C in art and a C in English literature. Luke told me he had a great experience in the sixth form and is looking forward to beginning his undergraduate studies in graphic design at the University of Cumbria in September. Congratulations, Luke!

Lewis G told me he was absolutely buzzing once he opened his results as they mean he has secured his nuclear engineering degree apprenticeship with Sellafield Ltd, having achieved a distinction in applied science, a C in history and a merit in ICT. Lewis told me he had an amazing time in the sixth form and thanked his teachers for helping him make his dream become reality. Congratulations, Lewis!

Harri M secured a fine set of A level results, securing a grade B in art, a grade C in English literature and a C in music. Harri will now begin a diploma in graphics at Lakes College and intends to build up a portfolio of work to secure a future apprenticeship in the tattoo industry. Congratulations, Harri!

This summer, I'm challenging myself to walk 10,000 steps every day for 45 consecutive days – a total of around 200 miles.

I'm taking on this challenge in memory of Gill Olley, our much-loved school receptionist, who we so tragically lost earlier this year. Gill was far more than a receptionist; she was the heart of Netherhall School. Her kindness, compassion and unwavering support touched the lives of countless students, staff and families. She had an incredible gift for making everyone feel welcome, valued and cared for, and her loss continues to be deeply felt by all who knew her.

I'm raising money for the Gill Olley Fund, which has been established to continue Gill's legacy by supporting disadvantaged children at Netherhall School. Every donation will help provide opportunities and support for young people who need it most – something Gill cared passionately about throughout her time at the school.

Over the next 45 days, every step I take will be in Gill's memory. If you are able to support this challenge with a donation, however big or small, you will be helping to ensure that her kindness continues to make a difference in the lives of others.

New Head Boy and Head Girl for Netherhall School

Netherhall School has appointed a new Head Boy and Head Girl for the academic year 2026-27. Following a vote amongst their peers and a formal interview with Mrs Tunstall, Assistant Headteacher and Head of Sixth Form, I am delighted to inform you all that Clayton M has been elected Head Boy and Maddie R has been elected Head Girl.

Clayton is studying applied science, history and PE and his future ambition is to secure an apprenticeship with RWE as a wind turbine technician. Clayton has spoken of his pride in representing our school and his eagerness to make a big contribution as Head Boy for the benefit of his fellow students; he is delighted and grateful to have been appointed to this hugely important position.

Maddie is studying applied science, PE and sociology and her future ambition is to secure a degree level apprenticeship in project management with Morgan Sindall at Sellafield. Maddie has expressed her admiration for previous Head Girls and feels privileged to have been appointed to the position herself; she hopes to use her role to provide support to students across the school and to represent the school to the best of her ability across the wider community.

The strength of the field in the appointment of this year’s Head Boy and Head Girl was remarkable and I would like to congratulate Ben T on his appointment to the post of Deputy Head Boy and Meya M on her appointment as Deputy Head Girl. Ben is studying A levels in maths, physics and music and hopes to pursue a degree in structural engineering at university from 2027. Meya is studying A levels in English literature, French and history and intends to read for a degree in history and French at university from 2027, before pursuing a career as a teacher of English in France. All four students are a credit to themselves, their families and to Netherhall School and will provide a great example and source of inspiration to their peers and to the younger students of the school. I would like to thank outgoing Head Boy Rhys K and Head Girl Isla H who, with the support of Deputy Head Boy Joe H and Deputy Head Girl Mia G, have given outstanding service to the school over the past year. They have set exceptionally high standards for the incoming team.

Cricket at Netherhall School 2026

2026 has been another excellent and progressive year for cricket at Netherhall School. An increased number of fixtures saw us play 20 matches, winning 14 of them.

In the newly formed national Stokes-Knight Cup, our U15 girls fell just short against a strong Cockermouth School side, despite some clean hitting from Sofiah M and impressive bowling performances from Kacey B, Lexi D, and Chloe A. In the U15 boys' Stokes-Knight Cup, we faced Workington Academy. After Zak N (2 wickets) and Cameron P (1 wicket) helped restrict their total, we narrowly fell short despite Sol P scoring 16 runs in just six deliveries within his innings.

Our U15 girls, U13 boys, U13 girls, and U12 boys all took part in cricket festivals held at Carlisle Cricket Club this season. At the girls' festivals, the day began with batting, bowling and fielding skill sessions before a tournament. Standout performances from Lexi D and Aoife S helped the U15 girls win all three of their matches. Likewise, the U13 girls also won all three games, inspired by impressive batting throughout the day from Isla T, Holly C, and Taylor R.

We also enjoyed success at the U13 boys' festival, where captain Jake V, supported by excellent performances from Charlie B and Jayden B, guided the team to three wins from three matches. The final festival of the year saw the U12 boys once again perform well, winning their opening three games before suffering a narrow one run defeat to NTS after a four was scored from the final ball. Maddox W captained the team with great cricketing knowledge and backed this up with excellent leg-spin bowling taking 7 wickets, while Matthew T, who is new to the game, impressed behind the stumps with his natural keeping ability.

We were also fortunate to play a number of friendly fixtures throughout the season. The U12s travelled to NTS and Carlisle to face two Trinity teams, with standout performances from Finley E, Johnny S, Arnie F, and Evan S. The U13 boys also played against NTS and RRCA, where Bobby S and Kai S took the opportunity to demonstrate their improvement in cricket with some excellent batting displays.
Finally, the U13 girls faced RRCA, where Imogen C showcased her batting ability. Supported by Emmie J and the impressive bowling of Willow S, the team completed an outstanding season with four wins from four matches.

Well done to everyone involved in cricket at Netherhall School for making it an enjoyable and successful year!

From the classroom to the boardroom!
Our Year 7s have spent this term working on The Maryport Project, dreaming up big ideas for the £20 million Pride in Place grant.

Today, after winning their classroom rounds, our students pitched their brilliant plans directly to Annalee and Dale from the Maryport South Pride in Place board for the chance to win some fabulous prizes.

Huge congratulations to our winners Eddie, Isla and Kane for their incredible ideas and confident presentations.

Year 7 Star Student Ellie M Crowned Athletics County Champion

A huge congratulations to year 7 star student Ellie M who has been crowned Cumbria 275m County Champion at the Cumbria Athletics Championship held at the Sheepmount in Carlisle on Thursday, 2nd July.

Ellie has been running for around a year and told me how she was absolutely delighted with her performance in the Cumbria Track and Field Finals held at the Sheepmount, and how she was proud to have represented her school and her family so well. Ellie told me how she absolutely loves to run and is now thinking of joining the Seaton Athletics Club to further her running career and I am sure they would be delighted to have such a talented young athlete as part of their club.

When I spoke to Ellie at school this week following her magnificent achievement, she told me how much she had enjoyed her first year at Netherhall School following her transition from Richmond Hill Junior School in Aspatria last September, her favourite subjects being PE and RE, and that she is already looking forward to year 8. Ellie was also keen to pay tribute to her friends who have been really supportive of her athletic exploits and said they have really helped to drive her to success, she was also quick to thank her parents Gemma and Alex for their support, telling me she was thrilled to have made them so proud.

I am sure you will join me in congratulating Ellie on her superb achievement in being crowned Cumbria 275m County Champion and to wish her all the very best for her future academic and athletic career. Once again, Ellie represents the very best of the students of Netherhall School and is a fine ambassador for our school. Well done, Ellie!
