40km.

5,000ft of climbing.

10.5 hours.

And no trace whatsoever of the sciatica 😁

Massive well done to Jo for completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

When Jo joined Fruci Fit in 2021, she could never have imagined doing this.

In fact, she still had doubts right up until the end.

^^ As so many do, and will, about our FruciRox event next weekend…where around 60 women will have some fun and step out of their comfort zones!

But she did it.

And this didn’t come from a few sessions or one ā€œperfectā€ week.

It came from consistently showing up.

Sometimes when she probably didn’t feel like it.

Repeating the small habits.

And keeping going when there were obstacles along the way…including sciatica.

That is what consistency and persistence can do.

Not every session needs to be perfect.

Not every week will be easy.

But keep repeating the right things and, over time, you may surprise yourself with what becomes possible.

Your ā€œunimaginableā€ does not have to be walking 40km over three peaks.

It might be walking downstairs with more confidence.

Getting up from the floor.

Saying yes to the walk on holiday.

Keeping up with the kids or grandkids.

Or making more memories with family and friends without worrying whether your body will let you.

That is what getting fitter and stronger is really for.

Helping you say yes to more of the things that matter to you.

Our next 7 Day Trial starts Monday 7th September.

It’s Ā£10 and you can try up to three coach-led sessions in Marlborough, Chippenham, Devizes or from home.

We’ll help with your form and technique, adapt things where needed and help you feel more confident.

At the end of the week, if it is not for you, that is absolutely fine.

If you want to continue, great.

We can talk through one-to-one, small-group or Pilates options.

Message or comment ā€œTRIALā€ and I’ll send you the details.

ā€œIs intermittent fasting good for weight loss?ā€

I’ve tried it many times before.

In fact, it helped with my fat loss when I was doing physique shows and studying at Oxford Brookes University.

But not because fasting unlocked a secret fat-burning mode…

It was much less exciting than that.

I would leave home at 5am, travel to Oxford and work in labs where I couldn’t eat.

My first proper meal was around 2pm.

Then another good meal at 7 or 8pm with Mrs Fruci.

My eating window was roughly six hours.

And it SUITED MY LIFESTYLE.

More importantly, it was hard to overeat in those two decent-sized meals.

I could feel full and enjoy my food without looking at the plate thinking…

ā€œIs that all I can have?ā€

It helped me control my calories without constantly counting them.

People talk about 16:8, eating windows, autophagy and all sorts of benefits.

But for fat loss, we don’t need to make it more magical than it is.

Fasting is a TACTIC that may help create a calorie deficit.

It is not automatically better than breakfast, lunch and dinner.

If it works for you and helps control your calories…

Do it.

If it doesn’t?

Don’t do it.

For some people, skipping breakfast makes eating less feel easier.

For others it becomes:

Restrict.

Think about food all morning.

Cake in the office.

ā€œF it.ā€

Start again Monday.

So the better question is:

ā€œDoes it fit my lifestyle and help me be consistent?ā€

Don’t enjoy breakfast?

Try delaying it.

Love breakfast?

Keep eating it.

The principle is the calorie deficit.

The tactic has to fit your life.

^^ And fasting does not mean saving every calorie for a family-sized mackerel feast at 8pm.

At Fruci Fit, we look at your food, fitness and focus habits and help you build something realistic for your week.

Our next 7 Day Trial starts Monday 7th September.

It’s Ā£10 and you can try up to three coach-led sessions in Marlborough, Chippenham, Devizes or from home.

Going up the stairs can feel okay.

Coming down?

That can feel very different.

It is something people often lose confidence with after an injury, a fall, pain or simply not doing as much for a while.

^^ I know this one too well after doing my ACL, lateral and medial meniscus last year.

When confidence goes, we tend to hold on tighter, rush the step or avoid the stairs when we can.

Which is understandable.

But confidence normally comes back from practicing the movement.

Slowly.

With control.

And with support when you need it.

In this short video, I show you a few simple exercises using the bottom step of your stairs.

Start with one foot on the step.

Use the handrail or something sturdy for support.

Then slowly lower the other foot towards the floor for a count of:

Three.

Two.

One.

And step back up.

The slow lowering part helps you practice controlling the movement you need when coming downstairs.

Start with five on each side.

Keep using the support for as long as you need it.

As it becomes easier, you might use a little less support or add a light weight.

There is no prize for letting go of the handrail before you’re ready.

^^ Apart from making the exercise unnecessarily exciting.

Save the video and give it a go if it feels suitable for you.

If you feel pain, dizziness or unsafe, stop and get advice from your GP, physio or another appropriate health professional.

Confidence does not normally come back by waiting to feel confident first.

It comes from practicing something manageable and gradually building from there.

If you want help rebuilding your strength, balance and confidence, our next 7 Day Trial starts Monday 7th September.

It’s Ā£10 and you can try up to three coach-led sessions in Marlborough, Chippenham, Devizes or from home.

Where most people go wrong in September…

September has always been a funny time.

But one thing hasn’t changed…

Humans. 🤣

I’ve worked in personal training and nutrition since 2008.

In the NHS, public health and now Fruci Fit.

With women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.

And everyone from complete beginners to athletes.

One of the biggest mistakes I see in September has nothing to do with motivation.

It’s having only one plan.

The perfect plan.

The one that works if work stays quiet, nobody gets ill, the diary stays as it is and you have loads of energy.

^^^ Tip: don’t set Plan A whilst on holiday with no Plan B. 🤣

Because then real life happens…

And the whole thing stops.

What most people need is a Plan B.

A ā€œwhat if?ā€ plan.

Miss Monday?

Move the session to Tuesday.

Away from home?

Do ten minutes from home.

Morning goes wrong?

Use a daytime or evening session.

Busy week?

Do fewer sessions, then an extra one in a calmer week.

Can’t get to the venue?

Join live from home or use the replay.

A plan that only works when life behaves isn’t really a plan.

It’s a wish.

The aim isn’t to be perfect.

It’s to keep the habit alive.

That is why flexibility matters so much at Fruci Fit.

Marlborough, Chippenham, Devizes and from home.

Mornings, daytime, evenings and weekends.

Strength, cardio, Pilates, yoga, mobility and more.

Our next 7 Day Trial starts Monday 7th September.

It’s Ā£10 and you can try up to three sessions.
