Keep playing 💪💪 or you’ll never know

My first session back wasn’t pretty…

My leg was shaking.

To put it simply.

On Tuesday I did my first Fruci Fit Stomach Blast session since injuring my knee playing football in November.

And wow..

I noticed the difference.

One side felt weaker.

My hip flexors had clearly been enjoying their extended holiday.

And in a few positions, my leg started shaking.

But it was a good reminder.

Your first session back isn’t always supposed to feel good.

Or look pretty.

Sometimes you have to get through that first session where everything feels harder than you remember.

The cobwebs.

^^ they get rid of the bugs by the way

The shaking.

The:

“I used to be better at this.”

Then you do it again.

You feel a little stronger.

You start trusting your body again.

And the confidence slowly returns.

And this is where Personal Training really comes in.

Not just giving someone exercises.

But understanding where they are now.

Adapting when needed.

Helping them through the first uncomfortable bits.

And reminding them that feeling weaker, rusty or nervous isn’t failure.

It’s feedback.

It’s the starting point.

Because clients will come to you thinking:

“Am I fit enough?”

“Will I look silly?”

“What if I can’t do it?”

“What if I used to be better than this?”

And your job isn’t to make them feel behind.

It’s to help them start where they are.

That’s why our Level 3 Personal Training Diploma is face-to-face.

You practice coaching.

Learn how to adapt exercises.

Ask questions.

Get feedback.

And build confidence with like-minded people around you.

Because becoming a PT isn’t just about knowing the exercises.

It’s learning how to coach the person in front of you.

Our next Level 3 Personal Training Diploma starts Saturday 12th September.

You can start studying the theory now before the practical Saturdays begin.

Message or comment “PT” and I’ll send you the prospectus.

Matt

Ps. You too may be feeling a bit rusty when it comes to studying. That’s totally normal too. Like everything, it gets easier and you’ll get it done. Trust then process and follow the study guide we give you

I went strawberry picking with the kids recently.

And the thing I always notice and share...is this..

The first strawberries looked good.

Walk a little further.

They looked better.

Then further again…

Even better.

Because most people naturally stop at the first bit.

It’s close.

It’s easy.

It’s good enough.

But sometimes the best things come from going that little bit further.

One more decision.

One more week.

One more time showing up when it would be easier to stop.

And I think it’s the same when becoming a Personal Trainer.

You can buy an online course.

Get a login.

Watch a few videos.

Tell yourself you’ll study later.

And for some people, that works.

But for a lot of people, the hard bit isn’t the information.

It’s keeping going.

The practice.

The confidence.

The accountability.

The:

“Am I actually doing this right?”

That’s why we don’t just leave you to it on our Level 3 Personal Training Diploma.

You still have to do the work.

^^ we haven’t found a way around that..and never will as you the work you avoid is the work you need to do (in fact, when I was studying, I would do anything to avoid public speaking. Turns out, that was the thing that I needed to focus on and changed everything)

But we see you every week in our studio.

We practice together.

Give you a study plan.

Answer questions.

Give feedback.

Check in.

And you learn with like-minded people who help each other out.

Because that’s what great Personal Trainers do for clients too.

Most people know some of what they need to do.

Move more.

Get stronger.

Eat a little better.

But knowing and doing are very different things.

A gym often gives you equipment.

Personal Training gives you the plan, coaching, support and accountability to keep going.

Our next Level 3 Personal Training Diploma starts Saturday 12th September.

You can start studying the theory now.

Message me “PT” and I’ll send you the prospectus.

I was on BBC Radio Wiltshire last week.

To talk about why I wasn’t selected for England’s World Cup squad.

^^ ok, just joking.

We were actually talking about what stops people in their 50s and beyond from exercising again.

Injuries.

Niggles.

Arthritis.

Changing hormones.

Not exercising for years.

And that thought:

“I won’t be able to do what I used to do.”

Which is a big one.

Because sometimes people think exercise only counts if they can do what they did 10 or 20 years ago.

Same speed.

Same weights.

Same amount.

“It has to be an hour.”

^^ it really doesn’t

You start where someone is now.

4 minutes.

5 minutes.

10 minutes.

A few squats to a chair.

A wall sit.

Some resistance exercise adapted for them.

Because their pace is the right pace.

And this is where good Personal Trainers really come in.

Not just writing workouts.

Not just counting reps.

But helping someone who feels nervous.

Someone who thinks they’re too old.

Someone who hasn’t exercised for years.

Someone who is worried about an injury.

Someone who needs to hear:

“We can adapt this for you.”

That is real coaching.

Helping someone put their socks on more easily.

Get up from the floor.

Mow the lawn.

Walk uphill without pretending to admire the view while secretly getting their breath back.

Say yes to more walks.

More holidays.

More time with children or grandchildren.

And if you’re thinking about becoming a PT, your brain might be saying:

“Am I fit enough?”

“Am I too old?”

“Am I too young?”

“Do I have the confidence?”

“Will people listen to me?”

But the people you help one day might be thinking exactly the same things.

And that might be why they connect with you.

Our Level 3 Personal Training Diploma starts Saturday 12th September.

Face-to-face.

Real coaching practice.

Support.

Feedback.

Like-minded people around you.

You can start studying the theory now before the practical Saturdays begin.

Keep going! As we say to our students 💪 and you’ll get there

I loved being the student…

Last week, during our Level 3 Personal Training Diploma, I acted as the client while one of our students practiced coaching me.

And wow..

I loved being told what to do.

Do this.

This many reps.

Rest.

Now do that.

No thinking.

No planning.

Just follow the coach.

^^ I can see why people like this personal training thing 🫣🤣

It also reminded me how powerful Personal Training can be.

Because if I’d been doing the session alone, I would have stopped.

100%.

But I had someone coaching me.

Watching.

Telling me what was next.

Expecting me to keep going.

And that is what great coaching does.

It’s not just giving someone exercises.

It’s helping them do the things they probably wouldn’t do alone.

Helping them build confidence.

Adapting when needed.

And helping them realise they can do more than they thought.

That’s also why our Level 3 Personal Training Diploma isn’t a course where we give you a login and say:

“Good luck.”

You practice coaching.

Ask questions.

Get feedback.

Learn how to adapt exercises.

And build confidence with like-minded people around you.

Because your brain might be saying:

“Am I fit enough?”

“Do I have the confidence?”

“Am I too old?”

“Am I too young?”

But confidence doesn’t come first.

Practice does.

Support does.

Showing up does.

Our next Level 3 Personal Training Diploma starts Saturday 12th September.

You can start studying the theory now before the practical Saturdays begin.

PS. Even coaches need coaching. Knowing what to do and actually doing it are very different things.

PPS. I realised just how unfit I am since doing my knee. Good news is that where I’ve focusing on my strength and rehab, I’ve now been signed off but the surgeon! Periodisation comes to mind! More on that in the course
