🌾 Team Old School House 🌾

We couldn’t let Scarecrow Week pass us by without getting involved!

It’s these little moments that make working at our nursery so special — our wonderful team coming together, having a laugh, being creative and making memories alongside the children.

We’re so lucky to have a team who are always willing to join in, get stuck in and make nursery life a little bit more magical. ❤️

Team Scarecrow — we think you’ve done a fabulous job! 🌾🤎

🍂🥕 A little taste of harvest time 🥕🍂

Today our children brought in some wonderful vegetables from home and turned them into something delicious together. ❤️

They peeled, chopped, explored, mixed and blended their vegetables to make a lovely homemade harvest soup — and then made their very own bread rolls to enjoy alongside it. 🥖🥣

So much learning happens when children are part of the whole process… feeling the vegetables, noticing the smells and textures, learning where our food comes from and, of course, sitting down together to taste what they have created.

From vegetable to bowl, with a little floury fun along the way! 🌱

A celebration of harvest, community, independence and food together. 🍁

A new term. A new season. A whole new chapter. 🤍

There’s something rather lovely about the beginning of a new nursery term.

For our team, it’s the excitement of new little faces walking through the door, new personalities to discover, new relationships to build and all those little moments that make working in early years so special.

We’re excited to get to know the children who are joining us, to learn what makes them smile, what captures their curiosity and what makes them uniquely them.

And then there’s everything else this beautiful season brings… crisp mornings, conkers, muddy walks, autumn treasures, cosy corners, pumpkins, puddles and the changing colours around us. 🍂

After the busyness of summer, there’s something comforting about coming back together as a team and getting ready for another year of wonder, discovery, laughter and memories.

New beginnings really are something special.

Here’s to our wonderful team, our new families and all the adventures this new term will bring. 🤎

To all our wonderful school leavers… 💛

Just wanted to send a little message to wish you all a very happy first week at school.

It feels very strange not having you all here with us, and I’m sure there have been a few proud, emotional and maybe slightly wobbly moments along the way.

We hope you settle in beautifully, making new friends and enjoying all the excitement that school brings. We can picture you in your little uniforms, growing in confidence and finding your feet.

We miss you, we’re thinking of you, and we’re incredibly proud of you all.

Go and have the most wonderful school adventure. 🌟

Lots of love,
Sally & all the team at The Old School House ❤️

And suddenly… it’s September again. 🤍

The little coats have gone home, the last goodbyes have been said and our school leavers have taken their next big steps.

It’s always bittersweet.

After years of their voices, muddy shoes, cuddles, laughter and watching little personalities grow, the nursery feels a little quieter for a moment. There’s definitely a touch of empty nest syndrome around here. 🥹

But then… we open the doors again.

New little faces. New families. New beginnings.

And that’s the magic of what we do. Every September brings a new chapter, while leaving us with all the beautiful memories of the children who have gone before them.

To our new families — welcome to our small but beautiful nursery. 🌿

We can’t wait to get to know you, your children, your stories and all the little things that make your family special.

And to all@our families remaining - here's to another year of childhood, friendship, discovery, muddy knees, big adventures and memories that will stay with us long after the little ones have grown.

Welcome to our story. We’re so happy you’re here. 🤍

Happy Retirement Debbie ☀️

When I answered that call and arranged for Debbie to come and meet me some three years ago I just knew we had found a superstar. ❤️

“I’ll never change,” she said to me… and I remember saying, “I hope not!”

Debbie and I are both what you might call old school. We’ve worked in early years since the 1980s and have watched the sector change so much over the years and go full circle numerous times. Some changes for the better, and some that have made it harder to simply do what we believe is right for children.

The expectations, responses on Famly, planning, legislation changes each week can place pressure on educators and sometimes make it difficult to practise in the way we truly believe in. But for Debbie one thing has never changed — the children come first. Always.

Debbie, please enjoy your retirement and be proud of everything you have done, the opportunities you have given children and the difference you have made.

We are so grateful that you became part of our nursery story. You will be missed more than you know.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. ❤️

Now go and enjoy your next chapter… and remember, you can always come back and play! 🥰

Love, Sally, Katie and Paul ###

🍎 The Little Apple 🍎

Way up high in the apple tree,
A little red apple smiled at me.
I gave the branch a gentle shake,
Down it came — what a tasty break!

Red and shiny, round and sweet,
A juicy apple is such a treat.
Crunch, crunch, crunch — hooray!
We found an apple today! 🍎

🫧 Bubble Creations & Cause and Effect 🫧

Sometimes the simplest experiences create the richest learning.

Our children have been exploring cause and effect through bubble creations — discovering what happens when they blow gently, blow harder, move the wand, change direction and touch the bubbles.

✨ What happens if I blow harder?
✨ Can I make a bigger bubble?
✨ Why did it pop?
✨ What happens if I move the wand?

Through playful experimentation, children are developing curiosity, problem-solving, prediction, language, coordination and early scientific thinking.

We love giving children the time and space to investigate, make their own discoveries and follow their own ideas. 🫧🌿

Action → Result → Wonder → Investigation → Understanding

Learning really can be found in the simplest moments. 💛
