πΈπΏ Reception Class Hanging Basket & Gardening Club Planter Project πΏπΈ
Our Reception Class children (aged 4β5) have been busy developing their gardening skills this term! π±π
The hanging baskets were created using small plug plants purchased over the Easter break and carefully grown on in our school polytunnel. On 12th May, the children worked in three small groups, each planting their own basket under the guidance of our school groundsman, Mr Taylor π¨βπΎ.
The baskets have since been nurtured in our open polytunnel, helping them thrive while protecting them from frosts and strong winds. πΌβοΈ After much deliberation on Thursday, we selected the basket we felt looked the best β although it was a very difficult decision as they all looked fantastic! ππΊ
For our trough planter, we chose a variety of herbs πΏ as part of our plans to create a sensory garden area where children can touch, feel and smell plants throughout the year, not just when they are flowering. The planter was created by children attending our After School Gardening Club alongside Mr Taylor, using plug plants purchased at Easter as well as plants grown from seeds sown and cuttings taken during the autumn. π±π
A huge thank you goes to Dean at Tower Nurseries, Hemswell Cliff, for his expert guidance and helpful suggestions when selecting our plants. We are incredibly grateful for his support. ππ
