Today we visited the magnificent Wentworth Woodhouse near Rotherham, South Yorkshire. This stunning stately home is being gradually restored by the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust, largely staffed by volunteers. Our incredibly knowledgeable guide Reg spent almost two hours telling the story of the house/s, people and history associated with the estate since the 13th Century, and we viewed a number of fabulously ornate rooms including the Marble Saloon, and the Whistlejacket Room. Often used in period dramas as a Royal residence, the grandeur is spectacular. The eastern faΓ§ade is twice the length of Buckingham Palace; and there are over 5 miles of corridors. Do visit, you wonβt regret it: take a tour, eat in the Butlerβs Pantry and support this undoubtedly worthwhile charity.
