hirst for education, our staff are our greatest asset. As part of the Learn Academy Trust we benefit from a wealth of support and resources, most notably through our partnership with Great Bowden Academy and our shared Executive Head, Sarah Bishop. Our aim is to develop confident, well-rounded individuals who are independent thinkers, ready for their transition to secondary school. We believe in the Resilience, Respect and Responsibility - The three ‘Rs’ of Ridgeway. Thanks to our extensive playing fields we are able to offer large amounts of outdoor learning, Forest School opportunities and learning through play for our younger pupils; helping to instil life skills alongside our passion for reading, literacy and maths. Our highly active and well supported PTA is known as FORA (Friends of Ridgeway Academy) who are always looking for volunteers and fundraising ideas. To book an appointment with our Head of School, Dave Turner or Executive Head, Sarah Bishop please call 01858 465 800 or email [email protected]

FORA (Friends of Ridgeway Academy) is our fabulous PTA.

Each year they work to raise thousand of pounds to support our school - from tuck shops and raffles to donuts and discos - they create winning events that the children adore and in turn, raises vital fund to ensure our children can access the fun side of school life!

In the past they have funded -

💚Author visits
❤️Books for reading corners
💙New play equipment
💛Coach trips to farms, the seaside and more
💜Sports equipment...

If you would like to get involved, to help them think up even more brilliant events or just to put your name down to help run a stall, fill out a grant form or organise for Santa to visit, they'd absolutely love for you to join.

The first meeting of the year is also the groups AGM - 8pm 3rd September at The Oat Hill.

But don't worry if you can't make it - just drop them an email [email protected] for more info.

The theatrical production of The Railway Children yesterday afternoon, was FABULOUS! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The whole school watched brilliantly as the four actors changed costumes and scenery to become all the different characters in the story. It was a wonderful way for the whole school to come together so close to the end of term.

Year 5 were also lucky enough to take part in a workshop where they got some behind the scenes tips and an explanation of how the performance was put together so cleverly!

Last night and this morning we celebrated our brilliant Year 6s. Thanks to FORA, we were able to throw them a pizza party on the field with music and dancing, and then this morning we said goodbye with our traditional Leavers' Assembly. Congratulations to all the award winners and well done to all 👏

They were the cohort that started school during covid and lockdowns, but despite the uncertainty of their early years, they have flourished. They have grown in confidence, humour and resilience - and we know their secondary schools are incredibly lucky to be getting them. We couldn't be prouder.

Thank you also to Miss Johnson and Miss Price for all the support they have given them over the past 12 months - we know they will miss you too.

A huge thank you to the University of Leicester's Archaeological Services team and the Oadby and Wigston Fieldworkers, who have just spent the weekend excavating a 5metre trench and several smaller test pits, to help us discover evidence of an Iron Age settlement, complete with an enclosure ditch 😳 underneath our feet!

Following a geophysical survey last year, which highlighted the possibility of iron age features, we invited the team back to undertake a dig and help us share our history with the public. It has been the best experience and one the children (and our families) will remember forever.

Speaking of the weekend, Jennifer Browning from the University explained, "We targeted the enclosure ditch and also excavated test pits and have spent a really exciting weekend digging and looking for evidence of Iron Age activity. We’re delighted to say we reached the bottom of the ditch and found lots of items that help show the history of the land – including an array of animal bones, fragments of Iron Age pottery and flint tools. All of this helps us to create a picture of how people were using the land over 2000 years ago and is another important step towards understanding the archaeology of the area."

We couldn't be more excited and would like to thank everyone who came and watched, sieved the soil and took a real interest in our history. It was really lovely to be able to share the finds with all the children on Monday, as well as fossils and other artefacts found by the volunteers on previous digs and field walks.

What a special couple of days.
