As the exam season draws to a close, we want to take a moment to say a massive well done to all the GCSE and A-Level students across Market Harborough and Corby.

You have worked incredibly hard through a very demanding few months!
We know how stressful this time can be for the whole family, which is why hearing feedback like this from a parent means the world to us:

"The support my child received ahead of their GCSEs completely transformed their attitude toward exams. They went from feeling overwhelmed and panicked to walking into the exam room feeling calm, prepared, and confident. We couldn't have asked for a better experience."

If your child has exams on the horizon for the next academic year, starting early makes all the difference.

The move from primary to secondary school is an incredibly exciting milestone, but it is completely natural for Year 6 students to feel a little anxious about the big change ahead.

With larger schools, multiple classrooms, and moving between different subjects, the transition can feel overwhelming at first.

Here are a few gentle ways you can help prepare your child during these final weeks of June:
✅ Practice the new routine: Walk or travel the new school route together so it feels familiar.
✅ Build organization skills: Help them practice packing a bag independently with everything they need for the day.
✅ Keep foundational skills sharp: Maintaining a gentle focus on core English and maths skills over the coming weeks keeps academic confidence high, making the step up feel much smaller.

A little bit of preparation now goes a long way in turning those transition worries into genuine excitement!

Jess is a qualified Primary Teacher and a mother of three, who has five years of classroom teaching experience alongside four years of successful primary tutoring experience. She specialises in primary maths and all areas of English, including reading, writing, spelling, and grammar, with a particularly fantastic grasp of the Key Stage 2 curriculum.

What makes Jess truly special is her deep commitment to making every single student feel important, valued, and safe. With extensive experience working with a range of pupils including those with SEN and SEMH needs, she understands the importance of having bespoke learning plans tailored to each child's unique strengths, difficulties, and personal interests. Whether she is helping a Year 4 pupil confidently master their multiplication checks or breaking down tricky grammar rules, Jess knows exactly how to inspire a genuine love for learning.

Outside of teaching, Jess is an avid reader, a keen baker, a big Harry Potter fan, and loves eating pizza! She can't wait to find out what mutual interests she shares with her new students as they begin their learning journeys together.

As we head into the final weeks of the school year, many parents start to worry about the dreaded "summer dip" —where long weeks away from the classroom can lead to children losing some of their hard-earned academic progress.

Preventing this doesn't mean turning the summer holidays into a strict classroom regime. Instead, it is about keeping their minds gently active. Introducing small, manageable habits into your weekly routine can make all the difference:

✅ Keep up a regular reading routine, even if it is just ten minutes before bed.

✅ Practice everyday maths during local shopping trips or while baking at home.

✅ Dedicate a small amount of time each week to targeted, one-to-one revision.

A tiny bit of consistent effort over the summer ensures your child returns in September feeling confident, prepared, and ready to thrive!

In a world increasingly dominated by screens and apps, we choose a different path for our learners.

At our Market Harborough and Corby centres, we intentionally use a traditional, face-to-face "pen-and-paper" approach. While educational apps have their place, writing things down by hand is proven to build a far deeper understanding and improve memory retention.

Our focused 1:1 sessions give students the dedicated space to map out mathematical equations step-by-step, draft essay plans, and physically engage with their work. Free from the distractions of digital alerts, our learners find themselves in a relaxed environment where they can genuinely focus, ask questions, and build lasting confidence.

Does homework time frequently turn into a daily battleground in your household? You are definitely not alone.

Many of the parents who reach out to us are completely exhausted by the evening stress of trying to help their child with tricky schoolwork. That is exactly where our team steps in to help.

We recently received this lovely feedback from a local parent, highlighting just how much of a difference the right support can make:

"Before coming to the centre, every evening felt like an argument over homework.

Since starting 1:1 sessions, the stress has completely gone. Our tutor has filled the gaps in their learning, and my child's confidence has soared. They actually look forward to going now!"

We don't just focus on grades—we focus on building confidence and restoring peace at home.

Now that SATs are behind us, many Year 6 parents are starting to think about the "Big Leap" to secondary school.

The transition to Year 7 is an exciting time, but it can also bring a few nerves—especially regarding the step-up in Maths, English, and Science. At Lisa's A Star Tutors, we love using the final weeks of the summer term to help our Year 6 students:

✅ Bridge any learning gaps before September

✅ Build the confidence to tackle more advanced secondary topics

✅ Develop independent study habits that will help them hit the ground running
Helping your child feel prepared now means they can head into their new school feeling capable and ready for the challenge.

Half-term is here!

While it’s so important for students to take a break and recharge their batteries, it’s also a great time to keep up a little bit of momentum—especially for those with GCSE and A-Level exams still to come in June.

Our top tip for a productive break?

Aim for "little and often." Just 30 minutes of focused revision or reading a day can keep the brain active without feeling like the holidays have disappeared!

We hope all our students are enjoying their week off. We can't wait to hear what you've been up to when we see you back at our Market Harborough and Corby centres next week.
