We are delighted to announce that we, Market Drayton Junior School, have achieved the School Games Platinum Mark Award for the 2025/26 academic year. This is the highest accreditation that can be awarded and we have achieved this for six consecutive years. An achievement we are all incredibly proud of!

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

🏆Our sporting achievements this year include🏆
🏏Launching our Young Leaders program 🏏
🥇Finishing 1st in the Shrewsbury Ten-pin bowling competition for our SEND pupils
🥇Winning the Market Drayton Cross Country event
🥇🥉1st and 3rd in the Market Drayton Dodgeball tournament
🥈2nd place in the Tag Rugby tournament
🥈2nd place in the Netball tournament
🥉3rd place in the Sports Hall Athletics competition
🥈 2nd place in the Quick Sticks Hockey tournament
🥉3rd place in the Basketball tournament
🥉3rd place in the Rounders tournament
🏊‍♀️Entering the Shropshire Swimming Gala and several children going on to represent Shropshire East in the county finals in their individual strokes
🏆Our annual Kevin Mann memorial event

With a total of 170 young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks to:
- ActivSports for facilitating our competition calendar throughout the year. We are lucky to have a wide range of competitions for the children to take part in every term.
- All of our after school club sports providers for giving our children a range of extra-curricular opportunities everyday. We currently don't have a day when there isn't something going on either in the hall or on the field.
-Our amazing teachers for delivering two high quality PE lessons every week following our long term planning.
-Our wonderful children for taking part, whether it be in a PE lesson or representing our school at a competition.

Mrs Taylor is very proud of the effort and commitment everyone shows towards PE and Sport in our school community. This award is for you all!

We look forward to applying once again in 2027!

On Tuesday, our Year 3 children went off to explore Roman Dewa in Chester. We immersed ourselves in history and thoroughly enjoyed marching through the city as a Roman Legionary with our shields at the ready. Standing in a real Roman amphitheatre was definitely a highlight of the day bringing what we have learned in the classroom to life. We also enjoyed learning more about the Romans in an interactive, hands on workshop as well as exploring the artefacts in the museum. Of course, we loved visiting the gift shop too!
Well done Year 3 - you did our school proud!

🌟 Congratulations to our very own Mrs Greaves! 🌟

A huge congratulations to Mrs Greaves, who has won this year's Special Recognition Award in recognition of her outstanding dedication and exceptional performance. 🏆

Mrs Greaves has worked tirelessly to enhance our school environment, successfully securing several cash donations to develop our school gardens and forest areas. 🪾🌿🍂🪵
Her passion, determination and commitment have also led Market Drayton Junior School to achieve all five levels of the School Gardening Awards – an incredible accomplishment that reflects the hard work and enthusiasm she brings to everything she does.

We are incredibly proud of all that Mrs Greaves has achieved and are delighted to see her dedication recognised with this well-deserved award.

Please join us in congratulating Mrs Greaves on this fantastic achievement! 💚👏🌿

🏅 Sports Day Update 🏅

Following careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision not to rearrange our remaining Sports Day events for years 3, 4 and 5.

Year 6 will have their last ever Primary School Sports Day on Wednesday morning, before the weather gets too hot.

As many of you know, we have already had to cancel two Sports Days due to periods of wet weather, followed by the extreme temperatures we have recently experienced. As we head into the final week of term, the school calendar is incredibly busy with trips, end-of-year events and celebrations.

This has not been an easy decision, and we completely understand that both children and parents will be disappointed. We know how much everyone looks forward to Sports Day each year.

However, with very warm temperatures forecast at the start of next week, followed by the possibility of thundery conditions later in the week, we feel our priority must be the health, safety and wellbeing of our children and staff.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We are incredibly proud of our pupils and look forward to making the final week of term a positive and memorable one for everyone.

Thank you,
Market Drayton Junior School

Yesterday, our Year 6 Rounders Team took to the field and demonstrated some fantastic skills, especially fielding. That catch from Rayan has to be the highlight of the tournament! ⚾️

We finished in 3rd place overall which is a fantastic achievement and one the team should be proud of!🥉
