ce healer, experiences led her to discover and train in many other, and some more esoteric forms of healing including Hypnotherapy, Hypnobirthing, Clinical Aromatherapy, Therapeutic Massage, Advanced Reiki, Gong & Sound Healing and also Shamanism and Cacao Ceremony. The training in shamanic traditions is eclectic, with over 25 years of training and continued mentorship with Indigenous Shamans from Peru, Ecuador, Medicine people from North America, Pagans, Druids, Cacaoistas and Plant Spirit Medicine Healers. Sorrell now weaves together her medical and shamanic traditions together into her private clinical practice, and runs regular online Cacao Ceremonies for all to access these healing gifts. It is her joy to share these powerful healing techniques and also support others in their quest for personal connection to spirit. Sorrell has been a teacher of natural health, from beginner to advanced post graduate. Her clients include Low-impact Living Initiative, The Institute of Traditional Herbal Medicine and Aromatherapy, Learn-Direct , The Shoreditch Spa, and The University of West London. Every part of a traditional shaman's rattle carries meaning — the handle represents the plant kingdom, the hide honours the animal kingdom, and the seeds inside represent the mineral kingdom and, in Lakota tradition, the spirit guides available to us.

True story: 30 years ago, I was practising shamanic healing in a clinic in Clapham Common — right next door to a massage therapist. A booming shamanic drum through a shared wall wasn't going to work. So I turned to Myr rattle instead, and found it did the same job, just more subtly.

Around age two or three, most of us learn to hand over our sovereignty to whoever's in charge. Turns out my hens do the exact same thing, for a pinch of corn.

I used to put my spiritual teachers on very high pedestals. I genuinely thought they were wiser, calmer, more connected than me, and for a long time, that felt completely natural.

But every single time, after getting to know them, the illusion would crack. I'd discover a shadow side, just like the rest of us. That cycle taught me something I now live by: the pedestal is a trap for everyone caught on it, teacher and student both.

One of the things I love most about herbal medicine is that it is truly accessible to everybody.

One of my favourite historical herbalists is Nicholas Culpeper. Rather than keeping medicine behind closed doors, he gave living plants to his clients to grow in their own gardens to help them heal.

Today, I’m doing the same thing—taking cuttings of this vibrant rosemary bush to share with my clients and students on The Herbalist’s Way training.

If you’d like to propagate your own rosemary at home, here is my step-by-step method:

Take your cuttings: Snip non-flowering rosemary shoots roughly 10 cm long.

Prepare the potting mix: Blend a 50/50 mix of horticultural grit and seedling compost to ensure sharp, free-draining soil so the stems won’t rot.

Prep the stem: Strip away the leaves along the lower half of the cutting, and make a clean cut just beneath a leaf node.

Plant: Dip the base in organic rooting powder (optional) and gently insert the stem into the prepared mix.

Water and protect: Water thoroughly and keep the pot covered with a clear cloche or bag to retain humidity and prevent the cutting from drying out while it roots.

Pot on: Once you see healthy roots peeking out from the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot, your new rosemary plant is ready to be potted on and grown into vibrant medicine.
