From Our Apple Tree to a Delicious Apple Cake!

Our Pre-school children have been busy little bakers, using apples freshly picked from our very own apple tree in the garden to make a delicious homemade apple cake!

This wonderful hands-on experience provided so many opportunities for learning and development. The children practised turn-taking, following instructions, working together and developing their fine and gross motor skills as they peeled, chopped, grated, measured, poured and mixed their ingredients.

We also explored the importance of food and personal hygiene, using kitchen tools safely, recognising ingredients and understanding how we can turn something grown in our garden into something yummy to eat!

There was lots of concentration, teamwork and excitement throughout the activity, and the best part was getting to enjoy the finished cake, which was absolutely delicious!

From tree to table – learning through real-life experiences!

The children were invited to explore mark making in a fun and creative way, using cotton buds dipped in paint to follow different patterns and then experiment with creating marks of their own.

This simple activity proved incredibly popular! It was particularly lovely to see so many of our boys drawn to the activity, choosing to spend time exploring the different lines, spirals, zigzags and shapes.

Activities like this are about so much more than making marks. As the children copied, experimented and created, they were developing their fine motor control, hand-eye coordination, concentration and early pre-writing skills, while also having the freedom to use their own ideas and imagination.

Sometimes the simplest invitations to play create the most engagement!

Our Nursery children have been getting creative with nature this morning, exploring leaf painting and printing! Using real leaves and lots of lovely autumnal colours, they explored different textures, shapes and marks while developing their fine motor skills and creativity.

A wonderfully simple, messy activity with lots of learning along the way!

Sometimes the simplest activities provide so much learning!

Our Pre-school children enjoyed putting their early mark-making skills into practice, using the different patterns displayed on our wooden blocks as inspiration. From straight lines and circles to spirals, zigzags and lots of their own creations, the children carefully watched, copied and experimented with the different marks.

Activities like this are a lovely way to develop fine motor control, hand-eye coordination, pencil control and those all-important early writing skills, all while allowing the children to explore and create in their own way.

Because every scribble, line, circle and squiggle is part of the journey towards writing!

Yesterday we celebrated our beautiful bride-to-be with a very special Hen Tea Party!

There was plenty of delicious food, lots of cake, even more laughter and, perhaps, one or two (or slightly more!) cocktails along the way!

A huge thank you to Annie at The Five Alls for hosting us and helping make the afternoon so lovely, and an extra-special thank you to our Denise for organising everything and making sure Lauren was thoroughly spoilt.

It was such a lovely afternoon spent together, making memories and celebrating our wonderful Lauren before she becomes a Mrs!

Here’s to love, laughter, happily ever after… and surviving the hen party!

What a busy week our little explorers have had in the Nursery Room!

This week has been all about learning through play, with lots of opportunities to practise and refine those all-important developing skills.

Our children have been busy strengthening their fine motor skills through stacking and posting, getting creative with mark making, and exploring their current interest in animals through books, matching and sorting, animal sounds and imaginative play.

We even added some construction into the mix, using Magformers and Mega Bloks to create homes and pens for our animals!

And, of course, there has been plenty of movement too! Climbing, crawling, balancing and exploring have helped our children build their strength, coordination and confidence.

So much learning happening through seemingly simple moments of play, small explorers making BIG progress!

Fire Drill Week complete!

Four drills completed and lots of fantastic learning along the way! Our children have done brilliantly practising how to respond calmly and safely when they hear the fire alarm.

In fact, our Pre-school children in particular seem to have become very accustomed to the alarm this week… so much so that they keep asking us when it’s going to go off again!

Well done everyone, lots of important learning while helping to keep ourselves safe!

We just had to share this wonderful creation from this morning!

What began as one child’s independent idea soon grew when a friend came along and joined in. Together, they built upon the original creation, using a fantastic selection of loose parts to make something even bigger and more impressive.

A lovely example of child-led play in action, imagination, creativity, problem-solving, fine motor skills, friendship and teamwork all happening naturally through play.

Sometimes the very best creations don’t come with instructions or an end goal… just an idea, some interesting resources and the freedom to explore!

Big imaginations, bright mornings and brilliant teamwork at Breakfast Club!

Apparently, it’s never too early for Hama Beads!

Our Breakfast Club children certainly proved that this morning! With lots of bright colours to choose from, they carefully created their own patterns and designs, and the concentration was fantastic to see. 🥰

Activities like this are so much more than just good fun. Picking up and positioning those tiny beads helps to develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and dexterity, while designing patterns encourages creativity, colour recognition, problem-solving and patience.

There were some seriously focused little faces around the table this morning… and some brilliant creations at the end of it!

Small hands, big ideas!
