ππ WORLD FOOD DAY π¦πΏ
Today is World Food Day β a chance to think about something every living creature has in common: we all need food to survive!
But have you ever wondered what was on the menu millions of years ago?
Long before supermarkets, farms and packed lunches, prehistoric creatures had to find their own food in a constantly changing world.
π¦ Some dinosaurs were herbivores, feeding on the plants around them.
π¦ Others were carnivores, hunting or scavenging for their next meal.
π Marine reptiles lived in ancient seas filled with fish, ammonites and other creatures.
πΏ And plants themselves tell us an incredible story about the environments that supported prehistoric life.
But how do we know what these animals ate?
Fossils can provide fascinating clues! Teeth, jaws, fossilised stomach contents, coprolites (fossilised poo!) and even bite marks can help palaeontologists piece together ancient food webs.
At Fossils Galore, we love discovering how every fossil can tell us something about the world that existed long before us.
So this World Food Day, take a moment to appreciate just how important food is β not only to us, but to every creature that has ever lived.
After all, even the dinosaurs had to answer the most important question of the day...
