Green Horizons Spotlight: Disrupting Home Heating

Pamela Brown is driving AIRA’s mission to decarbonise home heating through cutting-edge heat pump technology. As the Global Chief Marketing Officer, she is instrumental in scaling AIRA's operations across Europe, helping reduce CO2 emissions from one of the largest contributors to global warming — residential heating. While the UK market is experiencing rapid growth in heat pump installations, it's still a long way off the annual target of 600,000 installations by 2028. Pamela highlights the critical need for more skilled technicians and supportive government policy to get there.

"We've seen remarkable growth in the heat pump sector, but to truly decarbonise residential heating, we need a significant increase in installers and technicians trained in this technology." – Pamela Brown

The sustainability sector is changing.

The environment profession is cited as one of the UK's least diverse occupations. IEMA is working to change that through the Diverse Sustainability Initiative.

At the latest event in Birmingham, sustainability and environmental professionals, industry newcomers, and leaders gathered to share experiences, collaborate, and drive action. With dedicated networks for People of Colour, LGBTQ+ professionals, and other historically underrepresented groups, the initiative is helping to build a sector that reflects the society it serves.

A more diverse sustainability profession allows us to draw on a wider range of expertise to develop better solutions to the world’s biggest challenges. If you’re passionate about making a difference, there is space for you here.

Green Horizons Spotlight: SRK Consulting

Mining is changing, and so are the careers shaping its future.

At SRK Consulting, sustainability is built into every step of the process. From geotechnical design and slope stability to AI-driven data insights, engineers and scientists are rethinking how mining can work better for the planet.

For Jamie Spiers, the goal is clear: return the land to communities once mining ends. “Everything we do is shaped by that responsibility.”

As the sector evolves, so do the opportunities — spanning geology, geochemistry, rock mechanics, AI, and more.

Green Horizons Spotlight: CWM Environmental Ltd

Green jobs aren't always what you expect them to be.

Right now, a major barrier to growing the green economy is awareness. Too many careers in sustainability, across engineering, operations, marketing, and beyond, go unnoticed. Outdated career advice limits opportunities, and industries struggle to attract the talent they need.

In our latest Green Horizons film, Dan Taylor-Peter shares how important storytelling and good communication are to the sector, and how collaboration between education and industry is essential to unlocking green skills at scale.

Green Horizons Spotlight: Green Means Growth

The UK’s green economy is booming — growing over 10% in the last year alone while the wider economy stagnates. With over a million people already employed in Britain in roles that are delivering net zero, the financial sector has a crucial role to play in scaling this growth.

As Chief Executive of UKSIF, James Alexander represents members with £19 trillion of investments available. He works to ensure that private capital flows into sectors that we want to grow fast; renewable energy, green infrastructure, and sustainable businesses. These are projects that don't just deliver healthy profits, but deliver for the environment too.
