Looksmaxxing is an online trend focused on improving physical appearance, particularly among boys and young men.

While some content centres on grooming, skincare, diet and exercise, other parts of the trend can promote questionable advice, extreme practices and unrealistic expectations.

Our latest guide explores key concerns, including:
β€’ Pressure around male appearance and body image
β€’ Misleading or potentially dangerous advice
β€’ Obsessive behaviours and declining self-worth
β€’ Mental health concerns
β€’ Exposure to increasingly extreme online communities

It also shares practical advice for parents and educators on recognising looksmaxxing terminology, noticing changes in behaviour and starting supportive conversations about appearance, influencers and online expectations.

Read the guide here: https://vist.ly/5ke3u

Our latest guide supports parents, carers and educators in understanding the trend and recognising when appearance-focused content may be becoming harmful.

The guide explores:
β€’ The targeting of male insecurities and body image concerns
β€’ Misleading advice and extreme appearance-focused practices
β€’ Links to obsessive behaviours and mental health difficulties
β€’ How increasingly extreme online communities can influence young people
β€’ Warning signs, terminology and changes in behaviour to look out for

With clear, practical advice, the resource helps adults open supportive conversations about appearance, influencers and unrealistic expectations.

Over the summer, our Computing room was transformed into an exciting new Digital Hub, complete with atmospheric lighting, high-spec gaming computers, Xbox controllers, headsets and dedicated gaming chairs. We recently held an official opening of the Digital Hub to celebrate its launch.

Miss Butler, our Computing Lead, states:

β€œThe Computing curriculum at Beech Academy has developed considerably over the past few years, with the introduction of new qualifications, including GCSE Computer Science and Digital Skills. There has also been an enhanced KS3 offer, specifically focusing on Computer Science and ICT skills that are relevant to the modern world and workplace. The introduction of an Esports BTEC qualification for our Post-16 students will provide further opportunities within an engaging and relevant context linked to the gaming industry. Over the upcoming academic year, Esports will be introduced into the existing KS3 Computing curriculum as an additional opportunity to embed digital skills in a fun and creative way.

The excitement surrounding the new facilities has been incredible, with a great buzz around Esports and Computing overall. Our students are incredibly lucky to have access to the Digital Hub and the new opportunities it presents.”

This week at Forest School, Nurture 2 explored the river and talked about the different things we might find living in and around it. We looked carefully at the water, rocks, plants and other things we could spot. Nurture 2 were very excited when we spotted a crayfish in the river. The children were fascinated and enjoyed watching it move around. It was a lovely opportunity to explore nature and learn more about the wildlife that lives in our local environment. They had a fantastic time exploring and showed great curiosity throughout their Forest School session.

This week, our Year 10 are amongst one of our classes that have worked incredibly hard to prepare all the lovely baked goods for our Macmillan Coffee Morning!

All students demonstrated their ability to follow instructions, measure out the correct quantities of ingredients and work as a team to get everything completed. They each chose what they wanted to bake and completed their recipes independently. It was a joy to be in the classroom and see them working so well together. They were fantastic role models for the rest of the school. Plus, all of the baked goods looked and smelled delicious! 🧁 🍰 πŸͺ

Discord gives young people a space to chat, play games and join communities based around shared interests.

While it can be a positive way to connect with friends, there are also important risks for parents and educators to understand.

Our latest guide highlights:
β€’ Contact with strangers
β€’ Harassment and harmful behaviour
β€’ Exposure to inappropriate content
β€’ Gaming and socialising becoming a distraction
β€’ Spending and subscription risks

It also shares practical advice on using Discord’s Family Centre, reviewing privacy and spending settings, talking openly about suspicious behaviour and agreeing clear expectations around screen time.

Nurture 3 have come back into school ready to learn and have been really focused. On a Wednesday, the students do Numbots, Times Tables Rock Stars or Top Marks maths skills in the ICT room. They all push themselves to get to the next level on their Math's tasks. We have been so impressed with their willingness to try a different level, and they often want to share what they are doing with staff. It’s lovely to hear and see their growing confidence in doing these tasks, but also their pride in what they have been doing.

Well done, Nurture 3!

Over the past couple of weeks, Year 7 have started their work on The Great Kapok Tree in English. They have been working very hard and have become invested in the different aspects of the book. During this lesson, they were playing the Yes/No game, where one student picked an aspect of the book and the rest of the class had to guess what they had chosen. It was really lovely to see the whole class engaging so positively with the lesson and showing such a keen interest in the book itself.

In Nurture 2, students have been learning all about length in Maths. The children have been developing their understanding of the terms longer and shorter by making Play-Doh worms and putting sentences together to describe them. In our independent area, the children enjoyed a fine motor activity. Using tweezers, they carefully sorted the objects into their correct colours, helping to develop their hand-eye coordination and concentration. The children have worked brilliantly this week and have really enjoyed getting hands-on with their learning!
