Walks take place Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and evening options. We average 350โ400 walkers per month.
Walks span over 70 locations, each with numerous routes, ensuring variety and inclusivity. Venues mostly are accessible by public transport and nearly all have ample parking, mainly with nearby facilities.
Most walks conclude at a cafรฉ or pub, giving participants the chance to relax and socialize over refreshments. This helps foster a sense of community and encourages ongoing participation.
No sign-ups or registration are requiredโsimply arrive at the meeting point. Walks start at 11:00 a.m., with participants gathering from 10:30 a.m. New walkers should introduce themselves to the walk leader before mingling with the group. All walks are free of charge.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome on most walks. Owners are responsible for their pets. We occasionally walk through parks, forests, or farmland with wildlife and livestock. Please follow safety guidelines and the Country and Highway Codes
We recommend bringing water to stay hydrated and, on longer walks, a light snack. Please wear appropriate attire, including sturdy footwear, as we walk in all weather and on varied terrain. Hiking poles or umbrellas can also be helpful. Participants are encouraged to be mindful of other walkers, runners, cyclists, and riders, especially as we often spend time chatting during walks.

Promoting mindfulness, reducing isolation, and improving mood through nature and conversation.
Creating opportunities for people to connect, foster friendships, and support one another in a safe, inclusive environment.
All walks and activities are undertaken at participants' own risk. Walk and Talk cannot accept responsibility for persons who voluntarily leave the main party. If you choose to depart early, it is essential you notify the walk leader and or back-marker. As a not-for-profit group, we rely on the dedication of our volunteers to lead and organize walks and activities. We are always looking for ways to expand our services, improve accessibility, and ensure we can continue to offer this valuable resource to the community free of charge.
Why not take this opportunity to get outside, breathe in the fresh air, and connect with like-minded individuals? Join us and experience the joy of walking and talking with a vibrant, supportive community๐ถ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ถ ๐๐ฎ๐ท

# 12. **Why do you not a have a WebSite?**

- These are listed in order of what is most precious to us โ especially volunteer time.
- We currently use Facebook as our main platform because it is free and allows us to quickly share walk details, photos, and community updates.
- If someone cannot access Facebook, our walk programme can also be found online through Mansfield CVS, at the link they kindly provide. https://www.mansfieldcvs.org/
# 13 ** why do you not walk at weekends?**
# 14 ** why do you not have evening walks?**
- We would like to offer weekend and evening walks, and it has been known to happen. However, due to other commitments, it can be difficult to find the time, and for safety reasons we prefer to have two walk leaders on every walk. There are also plenty of other groups walking at weekends, as many of us are already members of the Ramblers and other walking and hiking groups.
# # Please remember:
- We are a not-for-profit group
- We charge nothing to take part in our walks
- We receive no funding
- Everything we do is voluntary
Helping run the group is part of a positive community service that many of us enjoy and find rewarding.

Picture Perfect Peafield Lane & Plantation with Peter
Numbers certainly tell part of the story today, with 26 of us pacing along at a good steady stride to keep up with Peter ๐
For once, we even had something to moan about โ and that was the sight of some fly-tipping along the route. But thankfully, it didn't stop us enjoying the walk, the conversation or, of course, the obligatory blackberry tasting along the way๐ซ๐
We covered 4.2 miles, we walked, we talked, we ate blackberries and we had fun. Once back at The Coopers at Mansfield Woodhouse, we quenched our thirst and started getting ready for the weekend.
From just eight of us at 10:30, our numbers steadily grew until we were 26. The walk itself took just 1 hour 45 minutes, but with the time spent chatting before and afterwards, around 3ยฝ hours of the day were very well spentโค๏ธ
Our route took us through Peafield Wood, past Westfield House Farm and down towards Leeming Lane North. Once across the road, we crossed the very dry stream at The Bottoms, continued through the hamlet and woodland as far as Park Hall Veterinary Clinic, then crossed the fields towards Manor Park before finishing back at The Coopers.
Thank you Peter for leading us today, thank you Iain for capturing the walk in photographs, and a huge thank you to everyone who joined us. ๐
And of course, a big shout-out to our host and all the team at The Coopers for looking after us so well.
Next Week's Walks
As we head towards the Bank Holiday weekend at Brierley and into a brand-new month, we have five wonderful walks planned:
๐ Sir John Cockle
Sutton Road, Mansfield NG18 5EU
Newstead & Annesley Country Park
Tilford Road, Newstead Village NG15 0BU
(over the railway crossing)
๐The Oak Tree
Southwell Road West, Mansfield NG18 4LA
Shirebrook staff sports and social club
Langwith Road, Shirebrook NG20 8TF
The White Swan
Meden Square, Pleasley NG19 7SQ
Five walks, five different places and hopefully lots more walking, talking and laughter!
We look forward to seeing you next week

THUNDER, RAINโฆ AND A NEARLY DRY WALK โ๏ธโ๐ฅพ
Helen Wrote: "Despite what the weather forecast had in store for us today, seven brave walkers set off from Pleasley for a 4-mile walk โ and somehow managed to dodge most of the rain ๐
With thunder and heavy showers all around us, we had just one very short shower, when the umbrellas came out in force. Apart from that, we stayed remarkably dry
And did we chatter non-stop? Of course we did ๐๐ Thatโs what Walk and Talk is all about.
After the walk, there was time to enjoy some great food and a well-earned cuppa at the lovely Pleasley Pit Trust Caf
A big thank you to Stuart for back marking and, of course, to everyone who joined us today. ๐
Sometimes you just have to ignore the forecast, put your boots on and go for it๐ฅพ๐"
I have included a photo of the upcoming walks and as you notice September is still to be confirmed But tomorrow we wander from the The Coopers at Mansfield Woodhouse
Thank you to everyone who joined us today โ what an amazing turnout of those willing and able๐
Our Treasure at Thoresby walk was just under 4ยฝ miles and, on a beautiful day like today, it was so easy to enjoy. The views from the Pit Tip were amazing, although please donโt ask me to identify everything you can see๐
At one point I was asked, โWhatโs that lake called?โ I didnโt have a clue๐ค It turned out not to be a lake at all, but a solar farm on the other side of Budby Forest, near Meden Vale. You learn something new every day.
Another fantastic and energetic walk, with the added bonus that itโs easy to shorten or circumvent the route if anyone didnโt want to complete the whole circuit.
A big thank you to Peter for back-marking and to Iain and Rob for the photographs โ theyโre fantastic and really capture todayโs walk.
And, of course, thank you to The Royal Oak Edwinstowe, for their hospitality, food and drink afterwards.
Finally, a very Happy Birthday to Rob
It was Rob who spotted a misprint in an earlier August calendar, so please make sure you check the calendar in the header of our page for the latest version.
I publish the calendar as early as possible, but until Iโm certain everything is confirmed, I mark dates as T.B.C. The date in question is Tuesday 25th August, when we are planning to walk from Newstead and Annesley Country Park on a 3ยฝ-mile route.
๐ Tomorrow, however, weโre at Pleasley Pit. Weโll meet by the car park at the top of Pit Lane, by the height restriction barrier.
Hopefully we will see you there๐๐ฅพ (personally i will be on Fridays walk)
Hope this is helpful, as we were extremely close to here earlier this month.
Itโs a fantastic 360ยฐ view, so you can really look around and see the extent of the damage. An easy point of reference is one of the ponds โ the one with the little island. Itโs within the area we call the โdesertโ, where we walked just two weeks ago.
Now that I can see exactly where last weeks fire was, I realise we only walked around the edge of that area late last year.
What makes it even more upsetting is that this part of the site was only just recovering from another fire about three years ago
A grateful thank you to Parrys Pics for sharing the information and photographs.
Popped to Rainworth Woods this weekend to see the damage the recent fires had left. Wasn't as bad as I'd feared, and hopefully the wildlife can do what its amazing at and recover.
This should be a 360 deg photo and you should be able to move it round to compare with the rest of the woods.
Just a note
(THIS WAS DONE AFTER ALL EMERGENCY SERVICES HAD LEFT)

Score Plus Four from Mansfield Town Football Club
Rob, thank you so much for leading todayโs wander from the Stags car park โ" a great, dust-free walk from Sandy's Bar along Bleak Hills Lane to the Reservoir. ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ณ
Looking at the photos, everyone seems to have been enjoying the overcast skies, with a spring in their steps and plenty of smiles. Iโm sure the conversation was every bit as good as the walking๐
Thank you to everyone who joined us today, and a special thank you to everyone at Sandy's Bar & Kitchen and Mansfield Town Football Club for being such wonderful hosts. ๐
If anyone has any photos to share or comments to make please add to the post or send them to me. Thanks for the photos Tony.
Tomorrow we wander from The Royal Oak Edwinstowe. Depending on what the weather has in store, Iโll decide which route we take. ๐ฆ๏ธ๐ฅพ See you there ๐
A Short Stroll with a Super turnout from the Sunnydale
Todayโs route from Sunnydale took us down into Pleasley Vale, passing close to the Wildlife Rescue then following the River Meden, passing St Chadโs Chapel and then making our way back to Sunnydale. Thank you all for joining in today. Thanks to Tony for the photos. and thanks to all in The Sunnydale Inn for the service and hospitality.
We had two new walkers (even though Martin supports West Ham) joining us today, which is always lovely to see. And what a fantastic turnout โ 28 with 22 of us enjoying the sunshine, chatting, laughing and generally putting the world to rights over our drinks
Seeing everyone together afterwards, enjoying a drink, chatting and laughing, was the perfect way to finish the walk.
Another Social & Disco
Following on from the fantastic success of Saturdayโs Summer Social, Iโm delighted that we have already secured another Social and Disco, thanks to Stuart.
So pencil Saturday 9th January into your calendars ๐
Weโll have plenty of time to promote it, and hopefully we can get our walkers, family and friends together once again for another wonderful evening of music, dancing, fun and friendship.
๐ฅพ Tomorrowโs Walk
Tomorrow weโre starting from Mansfield Town Football Club, with the added bonus of heading to Sandy's Bar & Kitchen afterwards.
Unfortunately, my car is due for its service and MOT, so I may not be able to make the walk tomorrow. I will definitely be back for Wednesdayโs walk as i will covering Dave's walk that he was leading but following the injury he picked up at yesterdayโs Sports Day with the Mansfield and Sherwood Ramblers he's limping with a smile.
Dave is very hopeful that heโll still be able to join us at the end of Wednesdays walk, and although he wonโt be walking with us, it will be lovely to see him afterwards. ๐
We wish Dave a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him tomorrow โ even if itโs only at the finish on Wednesday.
Another walk, another adventure and hopefully another great turnout
