Hi 👋🏼
I’ve had a few new followers recently so I wanted to reintroduce myself.
✏️ My name is Nikki and I’m a qualified primary school teacher based in Mistley, Essex. I tutor primary aged students English and Maths around the Manningtree area.
🌍 I have lived and worked around the world including Malaysia, Hong Kong and the Maldives. I love travelling and hope to visit 100 countries in my lifetime!
👶🏻 I have a 9 month old little boy.
🐕 I have a rescue dog called Peach.
🍱 I love food - cooking, eating out, meal planning, shopping for unusual ingredients, all of it!
🎓 I have a degree in Special Education and a passion for making learning inclusive for all.
☕️ I love tea and couldn’t get through the day without 3 or 4 or 5…!

Sentence construction is a key skill for KS1 and beyond. ✏️
In this lesson we looked at the building blocks of a silly sentence. We identified the verbs, nouns, conjunctions, adjectives & punctuation. We then identified synonyms that could replace each word.

Pegs are great for practicing fine motor skills in little fingers.
We used them here to form KS1 high frequency words. Afterwards we perfected our handwriting by copying the words in our neatest cursive writing. ✍️

Play doh again! ✏️
We built characters and objects to use in our creative writing later on. Students are far more invested when they take ownership of all elements of their written work.

Times tables are crucial for mental maths & important for standardised tests, such as SATs. However rote recall can have some parents tearing their hair out!
We used jenga blocks to answer questions & build a domino pattern.

Using art to inspire our writing! Last week’s student painted this beautiful rainbow on canvas & wrote a wonderful story about a rainbow going on holiday to Mexico! 🌈 🇲🇽
