Dear Students,
We are the Manchester Chinese Business Society (MCBS) and would like to invite you to our MCBS Business Competition.

This Competition is suitable for students who have a business idea and would like to start up their own businesses in the future. This Competition is open to students from all majors and it is free entry!!! Individuals or teams up to a maximum of five may enter and teams with different nationality will automatically add 10 points to their final presentation score. Finalists will be invited to our MCBS conference and speech in front of our guests.

This year, we invited professional judges to comment for candidates’ presentation. Judges include the manager from Manchester China Institute and The Asia manager of International R&I cooperation at University of Leeds. This is a great chance for you to network with professionals and students who have same interests. In addition, there will be a prize of £200 for 1st prize, £100 for 2nd prize and £50 for 3rd prize after carefully judges.

Participating in our competition, you will gain a valuable addition to your CV and will develop skills such as
• Team-working skill
• Communication skill
• Time management skill
• Problem Solving skill
• Presentation skill

[Donald Trump asks China to lift all US agricultural tariffs]

US President Donald Trump has asked China to "immediately" lift all tariffs on US agricultural products.
In a tweet, the president said he made the request because "we are moving along nicely with Trade discussions". Donald Trump has delayed tariffs scheduled for 1 March on Chinese goods due to progress in talks.

The trade war may not have caused China's slowdown, but it is definitely making things worse. Growth data released recently showed China posted the slowest growth rate since 1990 but that in itself is not as worrying as other data points, including that consumer sentiment and retail sales are flatlining or weakening fast.

[Huawei preparing to sue US government over telecoms equipment ban]

China’s Huawei is preparing to sue the US government for banning federal agencies from using the company’s products over security fears, according to a report. Washington has been leading a campaign against Huawei which officials believe poses a national security threat. The company's equipment could be used for Chinese government spying operations, US officials have said. The company’s executives have strongly rejected the allegations which they say are motivated by political and economic concerns.

Conservative MPs who sank the agreement in January have been told to stand firm in next week’s repeat “meaningful vote” – even if the price is an extension of the Article 50 exit notice until the end of 2020.

【Event】First UK-China art competition

The Manchester China Institute (MCI), in partnership with Creative Manchester at the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures, has launched the first UK-China art competition at The University of Manchester.

The competition is themed around 'Friendship across cultures – UK & China' and takes place between Saturday 17 November and Tuesday 11 December 2018 on Twitter and Instagram.
