Not all learning happens at a desk with a worksheet.

At Didsbury Tutoring Hub, I use practical resources, games and hands-on activities to help children develop their Maths and English skills in a way that builds understanding and confidence. Every session is adapted to the individual child, helping them learn at their own pace and in a way that works for them.

With over 25 years' experience as a teacher and Deputy Head, I've seen how much progress children can make when learning feels enjoyable and they truly understand what they're doing, rather than simply completing worksheets.

If you're looking for supportive, child-centred tuition in Didsbury, Chorlton or across South Manchester, I'd be delighted to help.

Some verbs don't follow the rules!

Can your child spot what these past tense words have in common? Can they think of others?

Irregular verbs are one of those small grammar skills that make a big difference to reading, writing, and spelling confidence.

Building Year 2 maths confidence starts in Early Years.

As children move from Year 1 into Year 2, the change in maths is building skills that make number knowledge more secure.

This week we’ve been strengthening the foundations that really matter:
- number bonds to 10 and 20
- quick recall of doubles and halves
- using tens and ones confidently
- spotting simple number patterns
- keeping maths playful so confidence grows

Many children just need a little more time with these early skills. If your child needs support with these building blocks of learning, I offer warm, supportive primary maths tutoring here in Didsbury.

Thinking ahead to the 11+ in Year 4?

Year 4 is the prime stage to begin building the early skills that make the 11+ feel ok. Nothing intense — just steady foundations that help children feel confident as the work gradually steps up.

This week we focused on the basics that really matter at this age:

*spotting patterns in words for early verbal reasoning

*strengthening times tables recall so problem‑solving feels easier

*practising careful reading for clues

*building the habit of slowing down and checking their thinking

*keeping learning positive so confidence grows alongside skills

Parents often tell me they want to support their child without overwhelming them — and Year 4 is the perfect time for gentle, consistent practice.

If your child is beginning their 11+ journey and would benefit from calm, structured support, I offer friendly, confidence‑building sessions here in Didsbury.

When confidence builds with learning, the understanding becomes more secure. Tonight's session was all about this. What a privilege to part of it.
