Another busy week at St. Kentigern's culminated in our MacMillan Coffee Morning. Thank you for your continued generosity. It is definitely one of the children's favourite days!

This week, Tahir has been chosen for the Caritas award. He has consistently shown kindness through the choices he makes each day. He works hard to follow our school rules, always trying to do the right thing and setting a positive example for others. He is also thoughtful and helpful in keeping our classroom clean and tidy, often helping without being asked. 
His actions demonstrate the Catholic value of stewardship, as he takes responsibility for caring for the environment around him and helping to create a positive learning space for everyone.

Year 5 have been developing their football skills through a block of invasion games.
The children have focused on attacking, defending, passing, creating space and scoring goals, while learning how to work effectively as part of a team. They have enjoyed applying these skills in a range of competitive games, demonstrating excellent teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship throughout the unit. ⚽🏃♀️🏃♂️

Year 5 have thoroughly enjoyed reading our class, The Kid Who Came From Space by Ross Welford.
Throughout our whole-class reading sessions, the children have developed and applied a range of reading techniques, including prediction, inference, retrieval and summarising. They have used evidence from the text to discuss and debate our weekly ‘big question’, sharing thoughtful opinions and building on the ideas of others. The novel has sparked fantastic discussions and encouraged the children to think deeply about friendship, belonging and what it means to be different. 📖🌟🚀

Cancer is something which can affect so many of our friends and family. Over the years at St. Kentigern’s, we have had staff members and pupils require the help of Macmillan Cancer Support. The coffee morning is one of the highlights in our school calendar and gives us the opportunity of helping so many others. Thank you to everyone who donated cakes and then bought them back! Thanks to the amazing families who baked for our raffle and a special thank you to those members of our school community who supported our coffee morning, today. You are all unsung heroes!

The Caritas award this week goes to Maisha. Maisha volunteered to be class eco monitor and has made an excellent job. Maisha makes sure that lights, boards and visualiser are switched off to ensure we protect the resources we have been entrusted with. This shows the Catholic Social Teaching of caring for the Common Good.

Watch out! Year 6 have been recruited by MI6 as spies! As part of our colas novel, Storm Breaker, we have solved some spy codes and created our own top-secret identities. MI6 have been in touch to invite to a very intensive spy training camp later this month!

The children absolutely love our shared book corner in Year 6. The children set up the the books themselves, sorting them into genres. All the children have had a chance to choose their own reading book. We are very lucky to have such a beautiful area to relax in.

This week in gymnastics Year 6 have been looking at a variety of individual balances including planks, arabesque and presses. We enjoyed having competition to see who could hold the balance the longest.
