Our Busy Bees have been busy exploring a wonderful, colourful sensory activity inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar! 🐛❤️

The children enjoyed discovering different fruits, vegetables, leaves and other foods, exploring colours, shapes and textures along the way. 🍓🍐🌿🧀🍦

Through hands-on play, our little Busy Bees are developing their curiosity, language skills and understanding of the world around them, all while having lots of fun! 🦋✨

This fun, hands-on activity supported several areas of learning and development from the Birth to 5 Matters framework:
🗣️ Communication and Language – Encouraging children to name different foods, learn new vocabulary, describe what they could see and engage in conversations.
🌍 Understanding the World – Exploring different foods, natural materials, leaves and the life cycle of a caterpillar.
🎨 Expressive Arts and Design – Exploring different colours, shapes, textures and using their imagination during sensory play.
🏃 Physical Development – Developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination by picking up, holding and moving the objects.
🧠 Mathematics – Exploring sorting, matching, counting and recognising similarities and differences between objects.
❤️ Personal, Social and Emotional Development – Building confidence, making choices and sharing the experience with others.

👵🏻 Gruffalo granny 👵🏻
To follow on with our harvest provocation this afternoon we explored the Gruffalo granny story! This also linked into to our harvest provocation as granny used a range of vegetables in her stew.
The children showed great independence skills as they cut and peeled a range of vegetables, they learnt how to use a peeler and picked up this skill really quickly. The children had some lovely discussions about carrots, potatoes and peppers and how to cut them and eat them. Tomorrow we are going to extend further on the learning by boiling our vegetables and making a stew just like granny made! ⭐️👵🏻

🍁Acorns
And used good counting skills to make the numbers up to 5.

Today in wise owls to continue with harvest week we took a trip to our local shops to buy some fruit and vegetables as we have been discussing how does fruit and veg get from the farms to the shelves and we have been learning about the process!
Our children were very excited to go to the shops and do some shopping and showed great independence skills!
We shared lots of lovely conversations discussing what fruit and vegetables we wanted to buy and how much money we might need!
To extend on this learning we are going to be cutting the fruit and exploring what it tastes like and what fruit is our favourite!

This week Wise Owls are exploring Harvest and where our food comes from. We have
looked at lots of different vegetables and how they grow. We have used lots of communication and language answering questions such as
“Carrots grow in soil”
“Farmers collect the crops”
“Tractors go in the fields”
“Vegetables grow outside and need water”
We have also spoke about why harvest is important and where the vegetables go after the farm. Well done Wise Owls 💚

🍆🥒🍎Creating faces🍆🥒🍎

This morning little owls explored different vegetables and used them creatively to create pictures based on how they are feeling today , this activity help support the children’s confidence independence and help them with their ability to make decisions when picking which vegetable they wanted to use. During this activity there children were able to take turns and work along side there friends to create this amazing pictures.
